OT can you say Glub Glub Glub?

As I indicated in another post the weather here has been very bad yesterday and today. I figure that locally we have gotten around 3 -4 inches of rain, my driveway has a grand canyon down the middle of it. I have seen rainfall rates of 1.34 inches per hour at times when my internet was up. so it could be even more. Today I decided to take a ride down to the Buffalo River ( 1 mile from my home) to see how high it was. Well I couldn't get even close to the river because of flooded roads I back around to another longer route. Now the Buffalo River is usually only about 2 -3 feet deep during the summer and about 25 yards wide.

Well as I was coming down off of the ridge I live on (Sure am glad I live on this ridge) I could already see the river through the woods. Normally even in the dead of winter you can't see the river through the woods. By the time I got to the bridge over the river it was obvious the river was 1/4 mile wide and must have been at least 12 feet above normal now. And it was still raining here!

If it is nice tomorrow I want to try going back down to the river, or at least as close as I can, and take some pictures. The river had flooded last year, but that was a trickle compared to what I saw today.

Yes there is an elephant santcuary here. But is is located on a ridge like my home. Yes we did have a drought 2 years ago, but it was made up for last years, Wee had a lot of rain and lots and lots of hay in the area. We had so much hay they couldn't give it away. In my quick tour today I saw 2 hay farms under water, so it may end up being another bad year for hey again this year.

I shall be careful when I go out. We are still getting more rain as I speak, but it is a lighter rain than we have been getting. I friend Dave last week dug by hand 5 x 10  foot 4 foor deep hole in order to put in a root cellar, It is now full of water! Little did he know he was actually digging a swimming pool. :) His dog loves it though. Buddy has been in and out of it a dozen or so times today.

Do elephants float?  You're near the sanctuary aren't you Dennis?

If I remember right your area was trucking hay from up north two years ago because of drought conditions.  You have really been through some tough years.  As Lulu says, be careful out there.
