Heart Pounding...

Ok this is off the wall for me. Today my heart feels like it is pounding. I am not sure what is going on. I am just resting and not doing anything else. Maybe it is the med the doc gave me for fatigue but I haven't taken it today so totally unsure what this could be.

I know it is not related to my MS but it could be from the meds. I am not taking any meds today except my Copaxone so I will see how I feel tomorrow.

Thanks Dennis,

I won't do it again, that is for sure. I gues not taking it is better than doubling the dose. I am glad I am feeling better too. Have to admit I was worried last night but sooo glad I am feeling better now :)

Glad to hear you're feeling better today. I learn the lesson of not taking a medication if I don't remember if I took it already a long time ago. With me it was a BP medication so I'm sure you can understand what that did to me.

Mary,

Thank you! I do feel much better today! This has been a very productive day for me. I am guessing I was right and took two of the lasiks. Next time I am in doubt I am not going to take another one.

As I am losing weight I have notices less water weight on me. I am hoping that as I continue to lose I can get rid of the lasiks all together.

I stay more than hydrated during the day. It seems like all I am doing is drinking liquids. I probably drink close to a gallon of water a day, this is partly due to weight watchers and the other part is due to the meds for my fatigue, they make me hecka thirsty so I know that staying hydrated is not a problem with me.

If you doubled up on your Lasix you may have ended up a little dehydrated Paula.  That will drop your BP and cause your heart rate to increase or your heart to pump harder.

Even though water pills are taken to pull excess fluid out of the body it is usually a good idea to also be sure you get adequate fluids IN every day.  I took a water pill for many years and know they are sometimes necessary.

I don't like them in general though because they often seem to end up in a disrupted balance of fluid and electrolytes in the blood and tissues.  One of the things that can do is change the blood concentration of other medications you are taking (and therefore how well they work or how much side effect is produced).  I doubt that is the case for you..... I got carried away again.

Hope you are feeling much better today and peacefully unaware of your inner functions :)

Well my BP is fine, it is 118/78 so at least that is in the safe zone which makes me feel better.

It seems to be getting better. Not sure that it is beating fast as is is beating hard. Not as hard as it was earlier so that is a positive. Hoping it was just from the mistake I made with my lasiks.

I checked out that site for the side effects of Copaxone and I knew about that, if it happens it happens withing minutes of the injection and should go away within a half hour. That has never happened as of yet.

The meds for my fatigue, my neuro told me it is ok to take them as I felt I needed them and if htere was a day I didn't need it then I could skip it, so that is what I have done, haven't skipped many days, just the days that I feel bad and want to just stay in bed and sleep.

I will update tomorrow to let you know how I am feeling

Thank you,

I think I figured out what is causing it though. I take lasiks for my adema and I take it around dinner time every night. Well last night I couldn't remember if I took it so I took one and I am thinking that if I did take 2 of them then maybe that is what has caused this today.

I didn't take any meds today except my Copaxone to see if it gets better :) Let's hope it does if not I will be calling the doctor to get in to make sure everything is ok.

The blood pressure is a good idea. I do have a blood pressure cuff and a stethescope so I will go do that now.

Thanks again,
Paula

It could be the new fatigue med or it could be Copaxone.  Here's a link to the WebMD site that talks about Copaxone causing heart throbbing or pounding & several heart related symptoms.
http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-321-Copaxone+SubQ.aspx?drugid=321&drugname=Copaxone+SubQ&pagenumber=6

I've been having issues with my heart. And I'm not for sure what it's exactly related to just yet. I had a holter monitor last Fri for 24hrs. Just sitting doing nothing my heart rate will go up to 125bpm.

Have you checked your pulse when it feels like it's pounding? If you have a blood pressure thing, you could also try to take your blood pressure at that time, too.  Definitely something you might want to mention to your doctor.

Morning,

This is one that maybe drugs but it may not be that simple either, some of the RX drugs for fatigue are CNS stimulants, missing a dose can cause side affects but some of them can stay in your system and cause side affects after awhile.

I do think you shouldn't assume anything because we have a few pwms who have irregular heart beats due to their MS, i think some are due to autonomatic dysfunction but some did have heart issues.

It wouldn't hurt to call your dr and get their opinion on this one!

Cheers..........JJ
