Please help, out of ideas...

I was diagnosed with MS almost 2 years ago and have noticed much more frequent, severe mood swings. I am beginning to have more short term memory loss as well. However, there are times where I feel as though I can do anything and not need sleep. I am not being treated with steroids, and do daily injections of Copaxone. Are these mood swings and memory issues somehow related or located in the same area of the brain? Would taking Namenda and Aricept together help? Is there any type of anti-depression/anti-anxiety medication that has been found to work better in patients with MS? I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, and Cymbalta, at the highest recommended doses and none of them seem to help after about 10 weeks. Thank you for your time.

1000 mg per day of fish oil - how to you do it. I take Cod Liver Oil - two tablespoons during the day and that is only 30 mil = 6 grams of fat - how to you drink up to 1,000 mg? 1,000 mil grams = 1 gram......ummm? I'm a little confused. How much are you taking - a teaspoon full or a gel capsule?

Hi, and welcome to our forum!  We're so glad you're here, and we look forward to getting to know know you.

I'm sorry you're having a difficult time.  I can't tell you what areas of the brain affect mood and memory, but I can tell you that MS certainly has an impact on both.  It can have a huge impact.  Many here have memory issues, and at times, every one of us has mood issues!!  I joke about that, but it can be very painful and frustrating for you, I'm sure.

If these symptoms are newer, and you've not discussed them with your neurologist -- you must now.  Again, I don't know what kinds of medications may help, but certainly, I think a lot of the anti-depressants would be of some help.  With the mood swings.  My doc recommends omega 3 fish oil for cognitive function and memory trouble.  1,000 mg. per day.  I use it daily.  When I remember!  (Just kidding)

Maybe your doctor will have you do a neuropsych test to see what's going on with you right now.  I think you should ask about it if he/she doesn't bring it up.  It evaluates things like cognitive function, memory, mood, depression.... It can give you an idea of what's happening right now.

I hope you talk to your doc soon about what's going on, blm.  There's no sense in suffering in silence.  Spill!  Hope to hear from you soon!

Feel better,

Momzilla*
