Um, how do you tell your neuro about this symptom? *blush*

I guess I should assume the issues I've had last week with exhaustion and a return of some some symptoms is/was a relapse. I did not discover the newest symptom until this morning.

I'll backtrack a bit to say that one of my oldest symptoms is a feeling of occasional tingling in my pointer & middle fingers of my right hand. I also had a couple months where there was a loss of sensation on my fingertips. I could feel, but it was a dampened feeling, like I was wearing rubber gloves.

This morning while sneaking a bit of alone time with DH (wink wink LOL) I discovered I have that same dampened sensation rubber glove feeling in my...um, private area.

Of course that set DH and I joking about it.."Doctor! My hoo-ha is broken!" LOL but in reality, I just can't even imagine telling my doctor about this. I just hope it passes quickly!

This is not my most favorite symptom I've ever had.

I hope everyone is doing well! Other than this newest thing, I'm feeling better. I was able to relax yesterday. My family came over for a game night and it was lots of fun. Today we are going to run some errands, so hopefully that will not wear me out too much.

MS has a way of raising it's hand and reminding you it's real -- just about the time you start feeling well enough to question if you're REALLY diagnosed correctly.

Don't I remember you were having some recent UTI problems too?  Could it be related?  Maybe you aren't emptying your bladder completely or in a timely manner if sensation is off in that general area.

Sorry I'm so late to this party.

Great to have a sense of humor with hubbie about this!  I too was a bit embarassed with this issue - but made myself think of it in very practical way - it's just another body part that you're reporting on. I was on a med that made it worse, so I stopped that med!

The funniest thing for me was - my Physicians Assistant in my neuro's office helped me initially, and then when I saw my gynecologist I mentioned it to him looking for some more advice and he seemed embarrassed by it!  I've been seeing him for 30 years!  His comment to me was that I had more important things to worry about than sex.  SO when I was collecting for the National MS Society, I sent him a note telling him that I knew I had more important things "than sex" to worry about, so he could help by donating to this wonderful cause!  AND he did!

Good luck with this....and I'm sure docs have heard it ALL!

This happened to me too, but after taking medication for spasticity. I was having radiculopathies in those areas which had then died down to a constant icy/hot paresthesia in the saddle region, sometimes with sharp shooting pains. No fun.

But another interesting effect is the heightened sensation out of the blue, with muscle twitches inside. Um. Sure. How DO you tell a doc you're walking around feeling like you need a good roll in the hay, and when you get one you  have to have a few more, and a few more for a few days until it finally burns itself out!

I still don't know if the two are related, maybe I did just need a few good rolls in the hay. LOL I have yet to bring it up with a doc. Too embarrassing. The pain issues, I did talk to them about. That's a little different.

Jess, unfortunately this is all too common with MS. We've discussed this and other very personal issues here quite a few times.

Doctors have heard it all, and would not look at you strangely if you described this. I too hope it goes away quickly. You need good vibes :-)  to have a satisfying sex life. You might have to get a bit more creative, also an ;-)

Best of luck with this.

hey jess!

that is great that you were totally able to joke about it!!

and i bet the sensation will come back--i actually have numbness and itching (terribly inappropriate) around my pubic bone area coming up from my rt. front of thigh.  this all happened on the other side (thigh, pubic area) a month or so ago and totally resolved, so i'm confident this will too--and i sure hope yours will!

things that you sure never imagined would happen to your body, hey?!!

I know that it is embarrassing, but I am sure that they have probably heard this before. I know that when my right leg went into a deep numbness that required my to use a cane for a few weeks my crotch area had also gone numb.

When I explained my symptoms to my Neuro I just stated it as a matter of fact, like oh and by the way my entire crotch is numb as well. I suppose there isn't much they can do other than record the symptom, but it probably is good that they know.

I hope that the numbness goes away soon. It just isn't fair to have that part of ones body go numb! ;)

Hi Jess,  I'm so sorry you are having such a problem in this area, it's something that is supposed to continue to work I think.

As far as telling your doctor, I would prefeace it by saying something like "I need to tell you something but I feel embarrassed......."  He/She can help you feel more comfortable by telling you it's OK, he/she has probably already heard it.

It's best to talk with them, they may be able to minimize damage.

I am numb in around specific dermatomes in that area, I can feel my genital area though---thank God.  The wet feeling is lower around my ankle area but I have it only rarely.

I hope you feel better and get some answers.  I know how hard it is to talk about some things with the doc.

Hugs,   Red
