Question on if this is what MS feels like

Hello Again,

I'm just curious.  I have been feeling a little better, but I still get a type of "popcorn popping" type feeling in my left calf/shin area.  This comes and goes almost everyday at some point.  Also, I get various twitching almost everywhere in my body.  A twitch here and a twitch there....not constant but it happens.

Today, I had a buzzing feeling on my scalp and came and went almost all day.  Also, I'm getting a little tingling feeling in my right side/back area.

No muscle weakness or anything.

I've had strange symptoms like this come and go (but never completely symptom free) since March of last year when a TON of symptoms came all at once (feet tingling/numbness and tingling under left eye/numbness under left foot/vibration in back).  Does MS start this way with everything coming on at once?  No vision issues.

Please give me your input.  I hope I'm not annoying anyone with my constant (it seems) questions about this issue or that.

To recap:  Brain MRI shows 20+ lesions, NOT typical of MS.  I see MS specialists at UCSF who do not think this is MS.  All bloodwork including LP were negative.

Thank you!!!!!

Carrie

Carrie, never worry about asking questions!  Being in limbo is very difficult, and it's hard to figure out what to do when the doctors are telling you there's nothing wrong with you.

With 20+ lesions not typical of MS, I'm guessing that the neurologists are saying either migraines or age-related lesions, right?

It's possible that your 20+ lesions are causing the buzzing, tingling, and numbness sensations without it being MS.  Neurological damage is neurological damage, no matter where it came from.  Your facial symptoms are suspicious of MS, mainly because MS attacks the nerves of the head first.

I can't say that my MS symptoms started all at once, because it really kinda crept up on me.  I had been having phantom sensations, chest cramps, and numbness for years.  I started having cognitive problems in 2006, and in 2007 went to the doctor for buzzing in my chin.  I had my first flare in 2007, and lots of symptoms showed up.

Sorry!  I know this isn't much help.

So where are your lesions located on the MRI?  Lesions located near the vascular spaces are more typical for MS.  Especially if they're oval or round in shape.

Hey Carrie,
Sorry you still don't have a dx. Bummer.  Some of your sx sound like mine (tingling in different areas of my body and some twitching from time to time, vibrations).  No scalp buzzing for me but you know that everyone experience is different.
Have you had a spinal MRI? What do they think it is at this point if not supecting MS?
