Wow JJ what an emperience, that just terrible. Thank you for the information.
Yes, though i have been tested both standing and sitting.
The first time I ever did the Romberg, was in the dr's office, i was standing and started to fall seconds after closing my eyes, i totally didn't know that would happen. First Neuro didn't get me to do it whilst standing, i was sitting on the exam table, feet dangling but i just thought that was because i was pretty unstable just trying to walk a straight line and the referal stated i couldn't stand during basic testing.
The second Neuro had me walk for ages (i get worse the more i walk), then he yelled stop, close your eyes. I ended up on the floor, almost kissing his feet, and then I fell over backwards trying to get up, didn't know that could happen either lol I'm pretty sure the only reason I fell forward was because I wasn't really stationary yet, so still going forward, I normally go over backwards when i'm standing and close my eyes. LOL dh says its taken him 20yrs to get me to swoon at his feet.
You know i'd never wondered if sitting down doing the Romberg meant anything or not, lol now you've got me thinking. This site explains a bit about the Romberg but the other info is more interesting overall.

Cheers......JJ
My husbands neuro said he "passed" the test. I couldn't figure out how this is possible when my husband has an amputation w/o a prothesis and can't stand. Thank you jensequitur.
Yes, you should be standing with your feet together and your eyes closed.
