New Symptom Today - Loss of Peripheral Vision

Today, late this afternoon, I lost my peripheral vision in my right eye for about 3 hours.

I was sitting at my laptop doing a little programming for work and things started looking funky.

I have had migraines since my teen years and I typically get the fuzzy/flashy tunnel vision but also, I can't see what is directly in the center of my vision field.

This thing today was different, the peripheral vision more or less just disappeared.   Also, the eye was pointed inwards and not in concert with my left eye which is my dominant eye.

One thing to note is that I do not and never have had binocular vision.  I had eye surgery when I was six to correct for strabismus, so when I get really tired, or really sick, my right eye does tend to turn in.

Anyone have any thoughts about all of this?

Sounds good to me, and one quick suggestion... your optometrist is your best friend (metamorephically speaking, in the world of eyes). If he and you are on "good standing" and he believes you, you can work through him to see an opthalmologist STAT. This is the faster route to get this done.

Simply put, you can probably get into your optemetrist in a week or two, and he can "fast track" you as an "emergency" into an opthalmologist in another week, bypassing the 2 or 3 months waiting list.

This is usally suggested when you have vision loss or possible Opitic Neuritis. You may want to google Optic Neuritis and see if your symptoms fit their descriptions, as well as check out our HP (health pages) to see if our O.N. page was ever completed.

Like I said, I don't know much about eyes, just that losing vision isn't a good thing and nothing to be trifled with, so an appt. would be in order in my opinion.

Good luck!

Sunny,

I've got to find a good ophthalmologist.   I have been in Charlotte a little more than a year, so I've only been to the optometrist for glasses.

I'll get to work on that tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion.

ummm.... definetly get an appt with a eye doc. to get this documented and checked into... is just a suggestion, but could help with a dx. and also help in treating or preventing any other "weird" eye problems. This isn't something that i've had, but others here do have different eye problems so I'm sure they'll "drop by" and give some advice.

Loss of vision is not something you want to mess around with. I don't suggest waiting until it happens again.... and if it does, book that appt. immediatly.

good luck, and let us know if this happens again...
