Sheesh... still having spasms - and now venous insufficiency...

So I've been having spasms for three weeks now.  They started about a week after I began Betaseron, and I thought they were due to the flu-like symptoms I was experiencing.  But the fever and aches are gone, and the spasms are still here.  So maybe it's not the Betaseron.

My leg still hurts like crazy, but the spasm/stiffness has moved from the calf and back of the knee to the upper thigh, and now I can tell that I have a painful area at the bottom of my right calf.  It feels just like the venous insufficiency I get in my left leg, but it's not that bright sunburned red - the calf is mottled and white and pink and purple.

I've scheduled an appointment with the vascular guy for Wednesday - it's crazy, but I'm hoping that it's more VI, because what else could it be?  I don't think it's CRPS or erythromyalgia.  These spasms are getting really old.  I'm having trouble walking - more so than usual - and getting in and out of the tub is dangerous.

So here's the question - would the spasms in my legs have caused the VI?  Or is the VI causing the spasms?  And this is really a question for the vascular guy, but I won't see him until Weds!

Yeah, it's crazy!  I just called the neuro too, because while I think I'm doing everything I can, I'm still in a lot of pain.  He's booked until the 30th, but they managed to squeeze me in.

Darnn Jen, sorry to hear you are getting hit so bad with the S-word. Scary to hear of the possibility of a clot in there. Get that cane, or whatever, don't want you getting beat up anymore than you already are feeling.

Hope you start feeling better soon

That's kinda what I'm concerned about, actually - I want to make sure there isn't a blood clot in my right leg.  That kind of pain is usually because of an insult to the leg - the last time I had spasms this bad, I had broken my toe.  I thought it was the interferon, but the other side effects have disappeared.

It's just really hard to use the right leg right now - I should really be using a cane, or something.  I almost fell over just a few minutes ago.

I'm assuming you've had all your clotting factors checked, yes?

At any rate, I had my very first *painfu*l spasm last night. I know exactly what you mean about "that muscle behind the knee"-- not sure what it is or if that's even exactly where it was but I was laying in bed last night on my stomach and all of a sudden it clenched up, super-tight.  Oy.

I really don't have an answer for your questions, but I can relate to the spasms, I get them also in my leg and they are a killer. I don't get them for as long as you have had them and I do make sure to take my muscle relaxers as soon as they start to help with them.

I hope you find a reason for the spasms and can find a way to get them under control.

As for the mesages...of course the mesages help but for how long? This has me curious, when I get spasms I rub the area and it relieves it a bit and then I feel better but the spasms come back. Let me know what the PT says, I am interested in this concept, heck I may start going for mesages if this will help :)

I got some good information from my Betaseron nurse, actually - she says that she has a friend with FM, who gets regular massages as a prescription.  I need to start pestering my neuro for PT and massage - this is ridiculous.
