Shower

Hi all.... I have been having a problem recently during/after my showers last few days just wondering if anyone here has/had same issues...

I love hot showers and my muscles are very sore so I turn shower nice and hot for the muscles. Well last few days some strange things have been happening.... One day my left arm got weak and I couldnt make a fist, and by the time I got out of the shower my hands and legs were shaking. Started out feeling like a shaking "inside" my body but by the time I was done you could see my hands shaking.

Also a few times when I go to shave my armpits I look down (obviously) and when I look back up I have the yellow "fireworks" flashing all over my field of vision. They last for a few minutes and I'm very off balance.

I usually shake for a good 15 minutes or so after the shower and then I'm ok. The other day I was working on a patient and for the first time since winter I got hot. They had the heat on at work but it had warmed up outside and I needed to open my window, but before I could, my hands started to shake.

I am a dental hygienist and thankfully I was working on a young teen and can fulcrum for steadiness. I know it wasn't bloodsugar issues because it was after lunch. I was just happy that once I seemed to cool down the shaking stopped. Anyone else have this tremors thing?

Thank you for your help

I forgot to mention we ordered one from amazon. We measured the width of. The tub and ordered appropriately. The shipping was free and it was huge and heavy, so that was awesome. Might be a good place to check out.

I am a big faan of the shower chair! It just helps to avoid a potential horrible problem. Even if you aren't needing it regularly, who doesn't like to sit and enjoy things? It is perfect for those lazy days ;)
I hope you find something that woorks for you. Take care,

Oh Barb you poor thing that is just awful:(

The shower chair sounds like a good idea... There are a lot of times I do feel "off balance" in the shower.. Especially when I put my head back to wash out the shampoo:/ I've almost fallen over before...argh

I lovedd baths and wouldd have at least. Two a day. About 8 months ago I stayed in for longer than ten or so mins and added more hot water, stupid!

I couldn't get out or even roll out for hours. I Allso didn't have my Phone with me, stupid again.

Now I take showers and due to weakness I have a shower chair. It takes away the fear but my aarms still get weak.

Hi CT -

I'm with Alex, dial back the water temp :-) One thing we know for sure is that heat and MS don't play well together. You don't mention if you are diagnosed with MS. I suspect from JJ's post that you are still working on a diagnosis.

In the mean time try and mitigate circumstances that exacerbate you symptoms, like hot showers.

"Dr., Dr. it hurts when I do this!"

"Then don't do that."  :-)

Thanks for your replies:)

JJ I LOVE that!!! I'd much rather call it fairy lights:)

I will be seeing a new neuro in June I will mention all of this to him. Wonder if he will know that to be this L'hermittes thing you mention... Would that be the same thing as the cell phone buzzing I had in my left thigh in June for a week and a half...?

Hope you are all well xo

Don't forget you're diagnosed with ON, the visual fireworks are not an uncommon phenomenon with ON, so it was probably from exposure to the hot temperature you generated in the shower but the interesting thing with you undx, is that you are basically describing L'hermittes more commonly associated with MS because it goes beyond just your known visuals.

Keep in mind that there are more general explanations too for heat generated or exacerbating tremors eg essential tremors, medication side effects, hypertension, dehydration, hyperthyroid, hypoglycaemia etc etc BUT since you mentioned your left arm became weak most of the general explanations wouldn't account for that one piece of your puzzle.

In MS, L'hermittes is associated with Pseudo relapses, which is the temporary return of previously remitted or the worsening of their everyday symptoms, which resolve once they cool down and or rested. When the unilateral weak limb is added to your ON, and the appearance or worsening the tremors when your exposed to heat it is probably a good idea to bring this to the attention of your neurologist, if this hasn't been mentioned before.

Cheers..............JJ

btw yes hot environments for me worsen my tremor, weakens muscles and screws up my vision more, although if there's fireworks (?) i think of them as being lots of twinkling stars or fairy lights :D

I get shakey legs after a shower which I notice especially when I bend forward to brush teeth, see in mirror etc. I also get mega tingling in shower when I raise hands, lower head  to lather shampoo as water is hitting scalp, sometimes just when hot water hits scalp. Not sure what the cause is. I reported this at first visit to neuro. In notes marked 'some l'hermittes phenomenon' but for me could me something else since I am undx'd.
