Well, I went for the ultrasound on Thursday and of course you have to have a full bladder. I drank the 1 litre of water and then got in the shower and felt really nauseous...the water didn't stay down long and it was very forceful vomiting. I called the clinic and they said to come anyway and I did and they managed to get all the pics they needed I guess.
Have been fighting nausea for a while off and on now but things are changing again. Yesterday I had a lot of diarrhea but didn't feel too bad until late in the evening. Friends came over and I had one drink and then changed to gingerale. I ate part of my supper and had a small piece of birthday cake and within about 45 minutes everything came up again. Great way to celebrate I guess :( I got sick again at about 2:00 a.m. and I don't think there is anything left now!
I am feeling weak as a kitten and we are supposed to go for Thanksgiving Dinner but I think I will have to pass. My appointment isn't until Friday for my physical and I am getting more worried all the time but I will just have to hope for the best. Will update again when anything changes.
Hugs,
Rena
I, too get the low back pain. My doc did an MRI and I have a ruptured disc. I, too occasionally feel menstrual like cramping. But, my bladder doesn't feel full all the time, but I do feel like I'm not always emptying it, and while urinating, it stops mid stream and I have to wait for it to kick back in. My urologist told me it's a neurogenic bladder - ms bladder. I don't know if this helps.
Dear Rena,
I'm sorry you are ging through such a tough time and now a scary interval. I do agree with Quix that your PCP is a dweeb.
Just wanted you to know yo were in my thoughts and that I'm sending good , calming thoughts your way until you have some answers.
I hope you feel better soon!
Hugs,
Ren
Re PS Did you see the post by Quix, she is taking a break...she said to PM urgent requests... this seems urgent.
Hey Quix...hope things are good for you and you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather we are having! I go for my ultrasound on Thursday. I had a call from my GP yesterday saying that she want's me to make an appointment for a physical which has me a little worried. When I last saw her she wanted me to book an appointment for a physical but we agreed that we would wait until after we got these and the urine/blood tests back but that they were not booking for physicals until December. I called this morning and my appointment for my physical is next friday the 15th. I HATE when this happens and I am still having a lot of menstrual type cramps post partial hysterectomy. The reason I had a hysterectomy was because of dysmenorrhea and now I am having cramps again...just no justice in this world is there?!! So...I am worried but will go for the ultrasound on Thursday and then wait another stinkin' week for my physical...yet another week of being worried...do we ever get a break I wonder??? I am a little concerned that it could be something on my right ovary...I had a huge cyst on it years ago and had to have surgery to remove it where they took my appendix at the same time. My pain seems a little worse on the right side. Guess I will have to wait and see but I will keep you updated...I am scared...no one wants to hear that the doc wants to see you right away unless there is a reason right...
Lots of nervous hugs,
Rena
Well I had my blood and urine tests done today...just have to wait for the results now I guess. I don't have my ultrasound until Oct,. 7th which is about 2 weeks away and I am still in pain. It's not constant but when it strikes it is not very pleasant! Still having urinary retention and I feel "full" all the time. I am hope something shows up on the tests I had today and then maybe I will get a bit of relief via meds or something., I will drop a line if I hear anything,
Tanks for the medical terminology lesson... ha ha! Well I figure I will just wait and see what happens...doesn't look like I have much choice. I think I will send a note to my "Good" Neuro (he he) and see what he has to say.
I will drop you a line if there is any change and here's hoping I don't have any disasters!
Thanks for your help Mama Quix...feels so good to know you are always there when we really need you!
Hugs,
Rena
Rena, your GP is such a dweeb...
AND she is aparently uneducable.
You need a specific renal ultrasound also. I am unhappy knowing that your bladder was distended in the office and that you can't be evaluated for three weeks.
The urinalysis (analysis of the urine, lol, I know you knewt this, but wouldn't stop myself.
C & S - Culture and Sensitivity ( see what grows and what antibiotics it can be killed by)
Yes, at the first hint of worsening pain the ER is the place to go. Unable to urinate is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY right along side chest pain and pooping blood.
Your doc is the ....... I am truly out of words to describe her anymore. She doesn't even care to understand. You really have no options??? Write this up and fax it to your neuro (the good one, lol) and see what their response is. I am more than a little worried for you, Kiddo.
Mama Quix
Well...where do I start...my doc has decided that this is something worth looking into...surprise, surprise!
She has given me a requisition for a Abdominal and a Pelvic Ultrasound with PVR (post voiding something or other...can't remember) but I booked it this afternoon and can't get in until October 7th. (I requested to be put on the cancellation list) She figures that it could be my ovaries or it could be my bladder (which was distended and painful upon examination).
She is also sending me for blood work for fasting glucose, creatinine, ALT, CK, fasting cholesterol (I am currently on Lipitor and low fat diet) and TSH. I am also to have a urinalysis with C+S (whatever that means). I will have these tests next Thursday.
I mentioned to her that I was mainly concerned about Urine Retention relating to my MS and she said she didn't think it would be related since I seem to have my MS under control now and I am doing a lot better...I didn't ask her HOW THE H*LL WOULD YOU KNOW...because I didn't think arguing was the smart thing to do.
So, I figure I will wait for my turn to have my tests but should I become so uncomfortable that I can't stand it I will go to ER and wait my 9 or so hours to be catheterized like everyone else. I may call my neuro's office tomorrow and see what he thinks I should do and see if he wants to see me. What else can I do when this is the waiting times that everyone has to deal with. Like I said, if it gets really bad I will go to ER and I will let you know how things are going. What do you think?
Rena
Hey girl...long time no talk to! How are you doing?
Well I am going to see the doc at 1:30 and if I went to ER I probably wouldn't get in to see anyone anyway until then. It's pretty bad around here. I will make a note of everything you mentioned in your response and will bring all of them up to her...I hope she has taken a bit of time to learn a little about MS but I doubt it.
I appreciate you getting back to me Quix as I was getting a little nervous about these symptoms. I will be sure to get back to you as soon as I know anything OK.
In the meantime I hope things are well with you...sorry I haven't had a chance to catch up on anything...been pretty laid up and when I wasn't there was always something to be done.
Anyway, I am gonna go lie down and see if this ice pick in my head will stop for a while.
Talk to you soon!
Hugs,
Rena
Rena, wow, girl, I don't like any of what I hear you saying. I am concerned that you are having severe urinary retention. You need one thing, ASAP. YOu need to have a straight in and out catheter passed right after you have finished voiding to see how much urine you retain in the bladder after your "completely" empty it. Theoretically this could be done in a GP's office, but I bet they almost never do it. An ER could do it. Of course a Urogyne or Uro can do it, but I am concerned about the wait you might have. The other way is to ultrasound the bladder immediately after voiding. They do that in hospitals on the surgery floor.
An extending bladder can give you the sensation of menstrual cramps, or they might be a paresthesia, dagnabit!
The pain you feel in your shoulders with the gas pain indicates irritation of the diaphragm. On the left side it could be the splenic flexure of the colon as it bends down on the left side to head toward the pelvis. Or it could be from a dilated stomach that isn't emptying.
On the right side the liver is there and I'm not sure what would be irritating it.
The shoulder pain is called "referred" pain from the bottom side of the diaphragm. Weird, but true.
Yes, have the GP check for an infection and ask her how you can quickly check to see if you are retaining urine - as THAT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN MS, since she knows nothing about MS. What a lazy b***h she is. Isn't she the Dr. Do Nothing/Know Nothing?
Quix
Thanks for responding to my post Michelle! I can't be having menstrual cramps as I have had a partial hysterectomy but they sure feel the same! Ouchy!! I don't have a fever and hope I don't get one! I really hope that this really is all in my head, not like the trouble I had getting help for my MS when they kept telling me my symptoms were nothing! I will keep the MS forum up to date as to what happens at the dr.s tomorrow...let's hope it's nuttin!!
Hugs,
Rena
hi rena!
so sorry to hear about all of the problems your bladder has been giving you...and a return to bad menstrual cramps is never a good thing!
i would definitely insist your doc. check your bladder and kidneys out. and since they never call unless anything is wrong (standard, but i've worked in medical offices and know just how often things go wrong with this system) perhaps you could ask how long to anticipate before results come in and schedule a follow up to talk about them no matter what the result.
do you have a temperature at all?
anyway, i'm not too sure about how all of this would relate to m.s., but i'm sure others who know better will be right behind me to help out with more info on this.
take good care,
xo michelle
