Stress, relapses and Solmederol

Hi to all.  Just a little about me.  I was dx over 8 years ago.  My dx took just over a month - so I was lucky in that respect - thats if you an call having MS lucky - but at least i was not left in limbo for ages like some of you on here are.  I have been a member of this forum for quite some time even though my profile is showing that I only joined a few  the days ago.  I remember it being only myself and Quitoxic being on here - now that is going back some time.  I hope that she gets to read this.

Anyway enough rambling about me - it's just a question that I have that I would like some input on.  Since Feb this year I have been under a lot of stress - had GB removed, Father with cancer so I was back and forth to the UK to see him.  Then my Father died at the end of April followed by my dog dying on the weekend.  So stress has been really bad. Yesterday I was dreadfully tired, more so than usual, and so I had a shower and discovered that I was numb from the abdomen around my female parts (sorry in advance to the men reading this) and down the muscles at the back of my legs.

I am a very active person, cycling over 15 miles a day, and generally getting on with life.  Each day my philosophy (sp) is to put your best foot torward and carry on.  I was on Copaxone for a while, but it really didnt agree with me, too many s/e and I also didn't like the fact that injecting every day was reminding me that I had MS.  So getting back to my question, do you think that I need another dose of steroids??  I always have rebound after taking them so that is why I am asking????

I have permanent (sp) double vision in both eyes when I look left or right, the steroids did nothing for me on that front, but I wonder if I left it too long before having the steroids?

Anyway it's good to be back, and I hope that I can give other people support with their MS, as and when needed.
Debs.

Get ye to the Dr.  Get the some steroids.  Get the on a DMD...

Ok, enough preaching, it is nice to meet you.  I amtaking Betaseron, and am loving it. I am also on day 4 of steroids. Starting them early in this relapse did not stop anything new, but I am just happy to be getting better faster.

Hi Shermay,
Its nice to meet one of you old-timers here. Hopefully Q will see your note and pop through to say hi, but she's awfully busy with a home remodeling job right now .  Be sure to send her a note so she sees you here.

Since you went off the copaxone, have you taken up any other DMD?  I sure hope you are taking something and not playing russian roulette that this MiSerable disease won't bother you much.  That's too big of a gamble to take unless you have some really strong reasons.

I think you need to see you doctor/consultant and discuss steroid treatment to get you some relief and hopefully feeling back in your legs and *parts*.   Steroids don't cure anything we have related to MS, but can give relief to the symptoms.  Your double vision would not have been halted if you had started 'roids sooner.  Can you get in soon to see someone?

Stress is definitely an enemy, as you well know.

Now that you've come back to the forum, I hope we will see you around more often.

feel better,
Lulu

I just had a relapse and went on 3 day steroids. My doc said it was the new symptoms that lasted more than 24 hrs, increased frequency or duration of usual symptoms, or any weakness, total numbness, or changes in vision, that he would call an attack and want to give me steroids for. Each doc is different but I would definitely call. I waited 10 days because I am newly diagnosed and just started keeping track of symptoms,I wasn't sure if it was my baseline or an attack (I've had symptoms for 5 years I didn't track because I was blown off without being worked up). I feel great after my steroids, barely any symptoms and so much energy I made a garden. Now I know it was an attack an not my baseline.  Hope this helps. Feel better soon!
