The oddest thing!

About 15 years ago I had a very severe fracture of my right elbow. Had 3 surgeries over the course of 6 months or so, and a year of physical therapy. Ultimately everything healed well, although I still have a lot of titanium in my arm, and the arm doesn't quite straighten. That really isn't noticeable, though. I have pretty much full functionality.

For quite a few years after all this I had intermittent achiness in my arm muscles near the fracture, sometimes quite painful. A friend who was a personal trainer had me do a lot of strengthening exercises, which helped a lot. The arm has not bothered me for 5 or 6 years now.

Until very recently. During this past week I've been getting a lot of pain in the old familiar places, and I can't figure out why. I haven't injured or otherwise strained the arm. I've been unable to exercise much in general because of severe fatigue, and I'm still having a great deal of leg pain and insomnia. I see my neuro on Friday. Would I sound totally crazy if I mentioned the arm stuff? It isn't like any other MS pain I've had. Does anyone know if there possibly could be some connection?

Thanks muchly,
ess

Hey Sweetie, definately mention it to the neuro.  It could be from the old fracture causing this pain, I broke my pelvis years ago and now with my arthritis condition, my previous fracture is now having degenerative changes around it.  But in your case, with the MS and the trauma and the surgeries, there could be a link there.  But please tell the neuro about it.  Maybe he can delve into it and find the root of the discomfort.

I hope you start feeling better Honey.

Love,

Ada

Your old arm pain might have been brought back by spasticity in the arm... The strengthening exercises probably helped relieve the strain on the elbow joint.  Definitely mention it to the neuro, and see what he says.

Another take on it - your achiness in the arm might have been early symptoms of MS.
