UT Infection:/

OK, I got one!!  I was dx with the infection last Wednesday (7th), after 48 hours of shivering and feeling really unwell, I managed to get myself to the Dr's.

So after a major course of antibiotics and several scans later, my Urologist warned me that this could turn into Sepsis - and he wanted to admit me immediately (as the abscess is the size of a plum in my Kidney) - I said that I needed to see my own DR first, and what my own DR did was to double the amount of antibiotics that I am on.

I had my latest scan on Friday, and the abscess has not grown, or shrunk at all - but my Sed rate is slowing down, last week it was 58 this Tuesday it was 118 and on Friday 121.

He said for me to have another blood panel work done in five days and then another scan to see what is happening.  I'm now on 3g of Amoxcillin (sp) a day and 500mg of Levofloxacine a day.

The pain in my right Kidney has been horrendous to say the least, unable to eat and generally feeling very ill indeed - I do feel better, but the scans and blood work are showing a different story!

The Urologist said that this has NOTHING at all to do with MS, I was stunned when he said this, as he was the one the my MSNeuro told me to go and see about self cath.   My own DR KNOWS that this is directly related so I am totally confused by it all (my Neuro never replied to my messages).

I just don't really know what to do really - and who to believe, as I don't want Sepsis and for a matter of fact to have the abscess drained also.

I still have the pain, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was.

I was just wondering what I should do, wait and see? or go and have it drained?

I don't know if any of this makes sense, as my pain killers are very strong.

I have chronic kidney disease as well as MS & even my kidney specialist thinks my continuous UTI's are due to the MS. I have urinary retention so he told me to make myself use the bathroom every 2-3 hours. I also take cranberry pills. I also have to have IV antobiotics when the UTI's get bad & I guess I am wondering why they are letting you suffer! I know IV's are not pleasurable to go through but if it makes you feel better & makes you improve, then why would they not give you IV antibiotics! Constant UTI's can irreversibly damage your kidneys!!!!
I pray you feel better soon & also that your doctors put their heads together & get you some relief!!! ((((HUGS))))

Debs,
I am thinking of you. If it ain't one thing its another. I will have to videotape myself the next time I feel good. It is weird how when you are sick you can't remember being well.

Still suffering, I have another appointment with the DR's tomorrow.

Fingers crossed that everything is calming down now, I'll soon find out with the blood work and scan which will probably be on Monday now:/

This really is a WOOPEE thing to go through - not!  Just feeling so tired, and worried about another relapse, because if I have the info. correctly this can make you have another one - which I certainly can't deal with at the moment as this is bad enough as it is.

I had to jump start with an IV and then take orals for months. My infection got away from them by the time they acted on it. I was not pushy enough.

Yeah I am having my MS Specialist say my gut problems have nothing to do with MS and my PCP saying it is MS. I really do not care I just want to not be sick every time I eat!  Say sweetly to the Urologist "Just fix the d-mn UTI PLEASE".

I had one once and I had to move my mattress right near the bathroom because I did not have the strength to get to the bathroom. UTIs are horrible.

Feel better mon amie.

Dear Alex

I can always depend on you with your solid advice.

I will go my own DR's tomorrow and ask for IV Antibiotics - however they have both said that there is no difference between IV or oral,it's  just with IV if you going to have have s/e it will be more significant?? so they said, what do you think?

I am totally baffled and feel so tired, I don't know which way to turn.  Yes I know that UTI's are classic to MS - just try to tell my Urologist that:  He's standing firm that this is NOT a MS problem!

Yes I do feel like whole body is poisoned, this feeling is just unreal, I am just a wreck at the moment, and so addled with it all I just don't know the best way forward.

Thinking of you too,

Debs

Debs my friend.

UTIs are classic to MS. If it were me I would would go to the hospital and get IV antibiotics. I got into a similar fix years back and almost lost the kidney. It took months to get over the thing because the Doctors were not aggressive enough. Yes a bad UTI it horrible. Nothing makes me feel sicker. I feel like every cell in my body is poisoned. I also ended up with an almond size stone and had to have emergency surgery to remove it.

You need to take care of yourself> I am thinking of you.
