I dunno... myoclonus or tonic spasm, sounds like. I've tried to describe similar symptoms to my neurologist, and he described it as myoclonus.
Hmmmmm, Maybe it was that same elf with the tennis ball that got me!
Dennis
I've got some elf trying to pound a 16 penny nail through my big toes. I think it's all along the same lines with this weird disease.
Speedy recovery with your knee...

Thanks! I have had this same surgery (on the same knee) about 35 years ago or so. That knee was pain free until about 1.5 years ago. I am confident the surgery will do the trick.
Dennis
I get the cattle prod symptom at night. I get a electrical sensation that starts in my foot, runs up my arm, my mouth opens wide and then I bite down uncontrollably. They ruled out seizure.
I have heard anesthesia can bring on symptoms. I don't know if it is true.
Hang in there. I hope your knee turns out like mine. I had so much pain for so long and none since the surgery in 1981. Now my other knee is toast.
Alex
It sounds as if your surgical site is coming along fine, so that much is good. Give it plenty of time to heal.
If that's not what caused your strange night, though, that leaves the MS. I've never gotten this kind of zap so regularly and precisely, but I too get plenty of these things, especially when lying down at night. Rarely when I'm falling asleep or am sleeping. The small ones jerk one leg a bit but otherwise are hardly noticeable and I've gotten used to them. The big ones, though, cause something between a shudder and a big flinch. Then my whole body below the waist seems to be involved and moves a lot. It's not painful for me, just annoying.
I hope your experience with the extreme version of all that movement was a one-night thing. If not, I urge you to talk to your neuro to determine what these spasms mean.
The best of luck,
ess
I have also hap the zaps and jerks before but like you said not with this type of regularity. That is why it was so weird and didn't know what to think!
I had also concidered that it may be some kind of post-surgery effect. But I had kind of dismissed that for the most part, at least as acutal post-surgery, because it has been so many days since the surgery. I did concider though that it may be a post-surgery flareup. especially since my blurred vision has also been worse since the surgery.
I guess my knee is doing pretty good. The leg is still somewhat swollen and stiff. I have stopped all pain meds (which resulted in my BM getting back to IBS mode (darn it :) ).
The only time I get any really bad pain is when I first get up after sitting or laying down for any length of time. I can also put full weight on the knee with out much pain though I am walking with a pronounced limp and very slowly.
Dennis
Hi Dennis,
when those nerves start misfiring, it can play havoc all overy our body - I have had these types of zaps and jerks too - never with this type of regularity though.
We have discussed before about how our symptoms are more prominent at night when we finally lay down to try to sleep ... wish they would happen during the day when we are already awake... we all need our beauty rest. LOL
I hope tonight iss better for you and htis was only a one night episode.
how's the knee otherwise from your surgery?
You could also be experiencing some post-surgery effect ???
feel better,
L
