Who wears medic alert type jewelry?

Once I had a firm diagnosis of MS, I decided it was time to get a Medic Alert bracelet. Even though my symptoms are very benign, I felt it was valuable to wear something that alerted emergency personnel of my health problems.

It gives me peace of mind to know that if I ever couldn't speak for myself or make myself understood from speech problems, that emergency personnel would be able to access my medical information immediately. I have other problems besides MS that would be helpful to know about in an emergency.

I got myself a very nice bracelet that I wear all the time. I was just wondering if any of you do the same?

Thanks that's very helpful. I think that is what I will do for myself for the New Year. Check out sports model etc. medic alert items. I would feel better having some kind of  medic alert even if I can only get the wallet card.

Thanks again
Erin :)

I think they (Medic Alert) have one that is fabric and plastic - a "sports" model, but check their site to be sure. You also get a card that you can carry in your wallet. I'm sure you can call them, too and see what they would suggest. Their website ends with the abbreviation for organization if that helps anyone!

I love the idea of wearing a medic alert but I am allergic to all metals. If I put on even a necklace/ bracelet for a few minutes I turn red and itch (even sterling silver or expensive gold). Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Erin :)

This is always a good idea and too many of us say, "We will get around to it."  And never do.

I have many reasons to wear a Medic Alert bracelet and have worn one in the past.  I however, do not wear one now.  With all the different problems and medications that I am on, I know that I should.  Maybe this is a good lesson for me, so the first of the Year, this will be my New Year's resolution...

Thank you precious for reminding us all, how important this is, if we cannot speak for ourselves.

Merry Christmas dearheart to you and your family,
Big Christmas Hugs,
Heather

I did all my info online and they have a plethora of choices at Medic Alert anyway - necklaces, bracelets, stainless steel, gold, etc., etc. Anyone with health issues should seriously think about it. I update my meds online and can print off a sheet that lists all my meds as well as contact info, doctors, etc. Truly worthwhile!

I've sure thought about it and I think have even written about it here or over on the womenheart board.  Its a great idea - I just haven't acted on it.  Is it too late to ask Santa?  - Lulu

PS you can get them in 10kt and 14kt gold is you don't like stainless steel!
