Did the optometrist dilate your eyes and look at your optic nerves? An optometrist may not be as familiar with what to look for as an ophthalmologist.
A neuro second opinion does seem to be in order.
And have you considered ENT? Balance duties are shared by the eyes and a structure near the inner ear, the vestibular system. The vestibular system is ENT territory--some of them are pretty good with balance. I would go to the hospital's website and check the doctor's interests to see if it says anything about balance or vestibular problems.
It sounds like you're pretty stressed out. I'm sorry you're going through this. It is so frustrating when all of the tests come back normal, but you know there's a problem. Don't let the "I don't know" answers get you down. Hear that as "I don't know--you should find someone who does."
cheri, they looked at me like that for ten years. Keep searching. See another neuro. Find a PCP that listens and wants to be of help to you. Don't bite on the depression, anxiety, stress or conversion disorder. Don't give up until a dx makes sense to you and they are treating it.
I went to my PCP for about 4 months complaining before they even sent me to a neurologist. They said that it was out of their knowledge. I actually work for an optometrist ... everything is more than perfect with my eyes...except for a dry eye problem that i have acquired though out all of this mess :( I'm am currently looking for another opinion...but until i find something...I don't know what im gonna do. I almost feel like they look at me like I'm making all of this up or something!
Hi Cheri. Welcome to the MS forum.
Sum has a good suggestion. Get a second opinion. It's the dr's job to find out what is causing your sx and if he/she can't, you need to bring your tests and file to someone who can get after this for you.
It is unacceptable that your treatment only consists of managing your sx and not finding out the cause. Have you seen an ophthalmologist?
Julie
How about going for a second opinion? There obviously is something going on. Maybe your PCP has some ideas?
