allergy to meds

Im in the process of being diagnosed with ms. I was noticing that a lot of the meds to help treat it is anti seizure medication or benzos. Im highly allergic to both, they cause me to have seizures. My question is, does anybody else have this problem and are there anyother meds that will help alleiviate pain? My pain is in several different areas. Not all at once but everyday i hurt. Right now the back of my legs have a birning, cramping feeling. Bottoms of my feet feel like they want to cramp. My left arm is tingly, my hand are tingly and i get crampy feelings in them also. Also i am very fatigued. This is how i feel today. There are many other symptoms i battle with on a weekly basis. So as of right now im not taking anything. I dont have allergies to pain medication and would like to know is anybody has had any success with that? What about marijuana? Sorry for the lengthy message. Thank u

I use Flexeril for my spasticity.  I often take 1-3 milligrams of Klonipin to augment the Flexeril.

I have heard of Buspar but don't know what type of medicine.

As far as the marijuana, it does help with spasticity and/or spasms.  And I have heard that it helps with pain.  It is legal here but I haven't applied to buy/use it.  There are loopholes that concern me.

1.  Even though it is legal for people with MS to use as a medicine, it's still illegal to buy.

2.  The 'medicine' is still illegal on a federal level.

3.  Once you are approved, your name goes on a database list.

So, I haven't gone that route.

Hi there,

The DMDs to treat the disease itself are not benzos or anti-seizure, but those used to treat complications related to MS can be in these families.

I had a terrible allergic reaction to benzos after being on them for awhile, so I completely understand your search for something else. However, I was fine w/baclofen for spasms. It's in a different med family.

Is the Dr. doing the workup aware of your allergy history and what you are experiencing right now?

Oxycodone worked great for me. As recovering addict I did not want to rely on it but for others it works. I also use hypnosis for pain control. It actually helps a lot both for distraction and relaxation which are amazing for pain. I was in a lot of pain last night and used hypnosis and in a little while the pain was gone. Yoga also helps me. I did not get into any of it until after my diagnosis.
