bleeding in muscle

Seems that every bruise I get start bleeding in thuscle.  Recently, I had a muscle tear diagnosed by my GP over the phone.  From the tear in near top of my calf blood washed down and pooled in my foot.  I have had a couple minor buises where bloold drew down my legs slightly as well.  This last weekend I sustained a more sever bruise again and it has start seeping down my leg again making the bruise look more sevre than I would expect.

Does anyone else have experience with this sort of bleeding.  I am assuming it might have something to do with spasticity.  Suggestions as whether this is probably the cause or any I other reasonable deas would be appreciated.

No, there is something severely wrong with your body's ability to clot.  Are you are aspirin?  Please explore some of the possibilities Deb mentioned.

Also other people have asked their local hospital to put them on an income-rated payment plan so tha they can still receive care.  Some doctors offices will also do that.

You have to be seen, because a bump in the wrong place can bleed into places that can be life-theatening or at least cause Mega-ICU stays.

Because I care,

Quixxie.

Your situation stinks and I'm infuriated as well.  Something major MUST be done about health insurance.  The last president I can remember that did anything that really affected people for the good was Roosevelt.

Do you get the MSFocus magazine from the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation?   This magazine is one of the three free magazines that I subscribe to.  Anyway, there were feature articles this month that talk about the problems that people with MS face with sticker shock.  One of the articles mentioned that NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) has an MS drug assistance program (there's a waiting list, though).  Also, there's a web resource at www.NeedyMeds.com which lists patient assistance programs and other low-cost medical resources (I hope something on this site will be helpful--keeping my fingers crossed).

Have you tried contacting the major MS organizations?:

Michael, I hope one of these pans out.  If it doesn't work out for helping with the cost of the MS medicines, I do hope you take care of the bleeding problem.  I'm concerned about you, too.

Your friend,
Deb

When I get a bruise it seem the bruise expands and the red/purple starts being pulled down by gravity.  It is like bruises end up being muscle tears.

What do you mean "bruises tend to drain blood easily?"

Hey Sweetie, I know how hard of a time your family has been having and I am so sorry for it.  Michael, you need to see the Dr.  No ifs, ands, or buts about it.  Little Sis here is gonna drive out there and drag your little behind to a Dr.  One thing I have found is that they will do just about anything to get me to shut up!!! (grinning) Do I need to come strangle some Dr's, Michael?  But I am serious here, you could have a blood clot or something!!!  I am worried about you!!!!

I have found that with my medical bills that bankruptcy is not such a bad thing.  I quit counting at 60 grand, they have financial assistance at the hospital where I go now, so I will be okay.  Now its just harder to get them to run my bloodwork like they use to. My insurance I had was cr-appy at best but I sure miss those 4.00 generics I could get.  Now its at full price but I am lucky that I have a wonderful pharmacist who shops around and gets me them at his cost.  He has been there for me most of my life :)  Lovely man!!!

Love You Michael,

Ada

I find it infuriating that the people in charge against universal healthcare have never experienced the problems we face because we don't have access to proper care.  McCain has never had to find the money to visit the doctor because he needed a prescription for penicillin.  Bush has never had to go to the emergency room with a bleeding colon.

Going to the emergency room when you have a heart attack - sure, you'll get treatment.  But if you have insurance, you get better treatment.  I've heard horror stories where somebody went to the hospital with a broken arm, and because she couldn't find her insurance card, got sent home with a wrap around the arm.  Not a cast, a wrap.  Luckily for her she was able to find her card, went back, and got proper care.

The other problem we have is providing preventative care.  People without health insurance don't go to the doctor when they have chest pains, or problems with their stomach.  They have nobody to tell them they've developed diabetes, or their blood pressure is too high.  This would save our health care system a LOT of money.  Instead of treating the heart attack in the emergency room, we could be treating the overweight patient with high blood pressure two years earlier.

Even those of us with actual health insurance are having a hard time of it.  Employers can't afford the insurance they were giving five years ago.  My health care premiums have gone up, and I have less care to show for it.  If I lost my job, I'd be in real trouble.  Not only would I not be getting the medication I need to slow my disease progression, but my husband would be without health insurance as well, and he has heart problems.  Not to mention being borderline diabetic.

We can't privatize Social Security.  We can't take any more money away from Medicare and Medicaid - quite the opposite.  We've got to have some universal system of healthcare.  And we've got to have it soon, or I think we're going to see our society crumble around us.

Don't get me started!  This is one of my soapbox rants.

The Copaxone folks pretty much said too bad.  They will help only after my situation is bad for a couple years and I am totally without financial recourse.

hemophilia is not likely the problem as I am not that young and have never had these problems before.

Bruises seem to drain blood for me quite easily.  Do you consider this to be unexpected bleeding?

Copaxone is extremely expensive in the US.  So, there is no way, even with basic insurance, could it be afforded.  Copaxone is much more affordable everywhere else in the world.

The insurance available without group health coverag covers at most half the expense and not more that $2000 per year.

It easy to do the math and see that anyone not employed with group coverage or not leagally considered unable to work cannot afford such drugs.

The only insurance we can afford has a $5000 yearly deductible.  That means no MRIs or lab work without going extremely into debt. Ask spastic about her situation.

On top of my situation, my wife has had a kidney transplant.  Her drugs are costing us over $400 buck a month.  After this month I am not sure how we will pay for her drugs.  Her situation is much more complicated in that if she does not get her drugs she will lose her kidney.

I am not seeking a bunch of sympathy.  I have read on this forum and know others whose situations are much worse than ours.

What I want folks to realize is the stupidity of our societies stance on healthcare.

I'm so sorry this society has left you without insurance coverage, but ANY unexpected bleeding is very worrisome.  What bleeds too easily into the muscles can also bleed into the head , eyes or other dire spots.  This MUST be evaluated.  Please have at least the basic blood tests done, like pl;atelet count, PT. PTT, etc.  This worries me alot~!.

I'm so sorry about losing your insurance and the injury.  Did you have to go off of Copaxone?  I hope not.

Thanks for the feedback.  Cannot afford to go to Dr. until I have decent insurance.  Lost my insurance last month.  Getting crappy insurance to replace it.  But, do not have  that yet.

Many here in the country and even on this forum feel the US cannot afford universal healthcare.  Why if other countries seem to do it.  I know many have heard horror stories.  But, most of those are not true.

Find a haemophilia centre in your area and get assessed for clotting factor and activities, particularly factor VIII and Von Willebrand factor.  Some versions of haemophilia can be relatively mild or even aquired.  Von Willebrand Disease springs to mind.  You may have had it lifelong and been unaware, or it may be a new development, rare but possible.  Haemophilia covers a range of bleeding disorders and conditions and the centres are very experienced in dealing with this kind of problem.  Get referred and hope it goes well.

Is this a new development for you? Oh McB, I'd call the Dr on this one if it were me.  Maybe they'd line you up w/a hematologist or something.  This is just my guess, but like JonM, does not sound like MS related.

Not a doctor, but this does not sound like MS.  MS spacicity may complicate it but is not the root cause.   Do you have a MS diagnosis?
