eye-blinking

Is uncontollable eye-blinking a symptom of
MS? I saw a Dr. show that mentioned it.

Actually, my uncle had Parkinson's, and my father has a form of it. Altho' this could be the due to  medications as you mentioned. It actually started when I quit Abilify, and eased up somewhat when my former Dr. prescribed Clomazepam. My new Dr. is weaning me off of Clomazepam, and I'm wondering if the uncontrollable eye-blinking could be a side effect from either of these drugs.

I was diagnosed with MS from a neurologist around 2000, from an MRI. I've seen a neurologist since, who said if I did have it, it's not progressing, but in recession. I've been having dizzy spells, the aforementioned uncontollable blinking, and periods of "lurching" to one side. My Dr. is sending me to another neurologist ( the first 2 are too far away) next week, so I'll see what he says.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.  Uncontrollable eye blinking would be possible in MS, but would be very unusual.

This is a movement disorder.  There are several main causes

1)  Side effect (often permanent of certain medications) called tardive dyskinesia.

2)  Beginnings of a condition called blepharospasm.  Rapid blinking which begins to involve longer and longer periods of eyes spasming shut.

3)  Tourette's Syndrome - complex sydrome of tics and OCD that almost always begins before age 18.

4)  As a part of Parkinson's Disease

5) Symptom of dry eyes

6) As a part of a degenerative disease called Supranuclear Plasy.

7) and others.

Good place to read about these is on

Hi Susan and welcome to the MedHelp MS forum.  I hope you expound on your question a bit - are you thinking you have MS?

I have not heard of uncontrolled eye-blinking associated with MS so I went looking for some answers.  I do find neurological disorders listed as a possible cause of the problem, but there are also 30+ other causes as well.  MS is not specifically listed in the sources I checked.

I hope you'll come back and share more of what you are thinking.

my best,
Lulu
