Hi I'm new to this site, My brief MS intro...I was dx in 2003, I've been on Avonex and currently on Rebif, I've had numerous flares, but do pretty good after IV steroids. However, my MRIs always show lil or no activity but my symptoms are there, which leads me to the present time... 2 months ago I had strep throat, on the day I finished with the antibiotics I began to feel so fatigued, I related it to my stress at the time and rested it off for a week, but then my left arm started feeling so weak, this weakness became pain, which lead me to the ER... EKG was ok, and my MRI shows no MS activity, but because of symptoms I was treated with a 5 day iv steroids treatment, now 12 days after steroids I still feel some pain if lift my arm too much, which leads to fatigue and stiffness on my left leg when on my feet too long, and major Panic spells.... I guess my question is, why all these symptoms and no activity on the MRIs? Thank you and sorry for the rant....
Don't you sorry - this is not a rant at all :)
You bring up an important topic and one we discuss here often. Relapse w/out brain or spine activity. Why? Well, could be because you are on a disease modifier. Could be because the demyelination can not be seen yet via MRI, - just can't be certain. But, what is clear, is that attacks can and do happen w/out visibly showing on imaging at the time of the attack.
I hope you remain stable with your MRIs, and this attack leaves you soon. I'm on rebif too and while I have my chronic problems, I do not have major attacks. And, even small ones are by no means comparible to my 1st big one before diagnosis. I think my inflammatory phase is over at this point. My MRIs have held so far, and I hope they stay that way.
You were dx'd in 03? How many attacks do you typically have a year?
Thank you for joining us. Hope the Rebif stops the attacks in their tracks :)
