I was reading this NMSS Momentum issue and they have this interesting article on different rehab options.

I find this stuff fascinating and if you do, too, check it out.
One of the things they discussed was a small wireless sensor that measures things like velocity and acceleration. From just having someone do a few activities, such as getting up from a chair and walking across a room, they get 72 numbers related to stability and mobility.
This can help tell them exactly what the problems are so they can target therapy and measure results. At PT, I had a Sensory Organization Test that looked (at least in a broad sense) at where my balance problems are, but for gait the PT just eyeballs me walking and then tries to explain what weird things I'm doing.
Dr. Fay Horak said, "Even when the stopwatch time is normal and the MS is mild, we can pick up some early measures of balance and gait problems" so it sounds pretty sensitive.
I would be interested to try one, but the article doesn't say what they're called or whether they're out of the lab yet.
