When you scratch at it for relief...do you get relief or does it feel kinda numb and no amount of scratching will help??

i call that the "Phantom Itch"!!!  it is itchy but no matter how much I try and sratch iot for relief..there is NO relief. I can not feel me even scratching at it...Weird I know!  Lol

The invisible itch is yet another paresthesia found often in MS. It is one of the most aggravating one I have. My itch is usually under the first joint on my big toe. Try scratching that in public without getting some stares, lol. The worst of it is , scratching doesn't help.

I have also had this sensation on my back just on t the place on your shoulder blade that you can't reach with either hand!. Other spots include my inner forearms.

It's just one of those things that you will eventually get used to even if you  never learn to like it. I'm sorry you are having such a time with it. Hang in there!

   Ahhh Yes....The "phantom Itch"
you are correct in saying that there is nothing  to relieve it.....BUT, time!
Eventually it will dissipate some, give you a break and then come back when you think it's all over ...LOL

Not so fun. Sorry you are havcing to try and deal w/ this but just know that you are not alone. It is NOT all in your head. It really has a name....

thanks for the message yes it is a pian it is keeping me awake at night that and the quick pain i call flash pain because it hits different areas it is hard to explain but it hurts and then it goes away is only lasts like a minute and then it moves on to a different area that and the itching are keeping me awake so i am not very functional right now i cant take codeine like another memebr suggested due to my constipation issues i think i will make a dr,s appt. see if maybe a lightleeping pill will help.

I can not take codeine either.  It makes me feel like a GOONE
Actually all pain meds have the potential for making one constipated  :(

you're not alone there. be careful tho. i can't feel that i am even scratching and have worn deep wounds into my legs with my nails. since the urge to scratch is so great I apply lotion and rub constantly til it just vanishes on it's own
