6 year old with Erythtomelalgia

My 6 year old daughter has just been told she has Erythomelalgia, her problems started 4 years ago and no dr knew what was wrong, she only gets it in her genital area, burning, swelling, severe pain, itchiness and complains of feeling really hot. She was on Tofranil for 6 months which didnt help, then we tried prozac for pain which again didnt help she has just started Gabapentin and im hoping it works, Im in Australia and have never heard of this before and her dr's dont know much about it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi fellow Ozzie, your question has ended up in the MS community forum, so i really doubt we'll be able to offer much if any advice on Erythomelalgia which isn't at all connected to MS. Out of interest i did a google search and came up with this site for you, covers it pretty well, from its history through to treatments etc so it might be worth having a look at it.

Personally when dr's dont seem to know much about a condition they have dx'd, I get a little uncomfortable and I can't help coming up with a plethera of questions. The main concern I have with the dx you've been given, is that the area this is specifically affecting her, is only in her genitalia but "Erythromelalgia is a rare disorder that is characterized by burning pain and warmth and redness of the extremities."  So i think it would probably be in your very best interest to get a second or even a third opinion, expecially considering there are no specific diagnostic tests to dx's this condition.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help!!

Cheers..........JJ

Thanks for that, the dr's have said she has a rare form of it which affects the genital area, ill have a look at the site you mentioned aswell, it mainly affects the extremities but in my daughters case its her genital area, her symptoms are exactly the same as it affectiong your extremities.
