How is this disease (Multiple Sclerosis) progressive?

Hello everyone,
I am interested in learning about Multiple sclerosis, I understand that this disease is progressive and despite knowing this I have decided to share my life with someone with this conditions.
I would like to know how does it feel,
how does it progress,
how fast does it progress.
How is it to live with this conditions
I live in NYC and I am interested in volunteering for a charity that deals with this conditions
I would like to speak to a specialist in this conditions so that I can learn more about it and how I can help alleviate my future Hubby with the symptoms.

It sounds like your husband may have had optic neuritis, a common condition in people with multiple sclerosis.  I had optic neuritis about a year and half ago.

Which medicine has he been prescribed?  I am taking a daily shot, and I think the medicine has helped me quite a bit from keeping the disease from getting worse.  In fact, I am even doing better than was several years ago.  

Are you a newlywed?  Are you from the US or from Germany yourself orginally?

and yes he was recently diagnosed with MS after having double vision and the doc determined that it was not problem from his vision and after studies they found out where the problem was coming from.  
I am looking forward to our life together he is planing to move to the US from Germany so I have hope for a bright future.  
yes he has been prescribed meds, and now he is taking shots.. this is so new for me I've never had anyone close to me with a serious condition.  Although my mother suffered a medical malpractice and she has been in a wheelchair for quite some time.

Welcome to the forum!  You will find lots of information about MS either by reading other's stories on the forum or by looking through the health pages (see upper right hand corner where it says "Health Pages").  

It's really hard to predict how MS will progress.  Each person is different and has their own symptoms.  This is because the disease can attack just about anywhere in the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve).  If there is an attack on the optic nerve, it can make the vision blurry, doubled, etc.  So it just depends where the location of the lesions are.  You can probably find out quite a bit by reading stories on this forum.  

You seem like such a selfless and caring person.  Your hubby is lucky to have you!
Was your husband just diagnosed?  Is he taking medicine and giving himself shots?  For the most part (about 80%) people with MS will stay ambulatory and will live close to (if not completely) a full life span.
