lightning pain

This isn't something new to me but the intensity is. Last night without warning it felt like I was being struck by lightning bolts over and over in my left thigh. It literally took me to the floor and blurred my vision from pain. When that finally calmed down I got intense pain in back of right thigh around leg into groin area and down back of leg. It hurts and burns plus is sensitive to touch or air movement. I have told my neurologist in the past and he just says its part of the joy of ms. Can someone at least tell me what its called or what causes it? Thank u.

Thanks Alex. It seems everything I have tried for nerve pain has had adverse effects. Like you I have learned to just let it run its course but just always wondered if it had a name it explanation of the cause.
Hope your stomach is better.

I do not know the technical term. Basically it is a short circuit of the nerves to the brain. The brain is getting the wrong message. They can put you on something for nerve pain if it is too bothersome. I call it the cattle prod. Nothing has ever changed mine. For me it is temporary so I can stand it.
