thanks again
Jodi
hope you are feeling better now and make sure you let your Neuro or Dr know about this. I'm not sure is it's a MS Hug or not.. difficult to say.. when you went to the bathroom.. did you feel better then?
take care and keep a timeline of your symptoms

Experience i've had with the hug was in 08 when the entire left side of my rib cage, so every little muscle between each rib front to back of my left side only, went into spasms. I'd gone to bed the night before with a tight feeling in the left side, i was feeling off with a virus that was sticking around, so went to bed early.
Got up the next day, i'd slept in, i think it was around 6 hours that i'd over slept lol. I still didn't feel like i'd slept a wink, was feeling heavy and still exhausted, desperate need for coffeeeeeeeeee! My chest still felt tight, i dont think i even got time to switch on the kettle before the first squeeze hit me, I was really screaming, the pain took my breath away. I dont think it had even registered before the next one came, an invisible giant had my left side in a vise grip and all i could do was hang on to the edge of the bench and scream.
They were coming so close together, i only had time to get a breath before each one, i was frozen in place, i dont remember being scared just aware i needed help cause it wasn't stopping. In my mind i was thinking is this what a heart attack feels like, thank god the kids are out, can i reach the phone? I didn't call an ambulance, like every good daughter, i called my mum, I remember saying to her I think i need an ambulance and then it hit again, and i was letting out that scream again, oh poor mum.
It lasted for hours and hours at this level, ED couldn't work it out, xrays to check for brocken ribs, nothing showing up, dx of muscle spasms and they couldnt at all explain why. I left still screaming with each spasm, nothing for the pain and too weak to walk unaided. It was not pleasant, never experienced anything like it, i've had spasms in my left side since but nothing like that time, in 09 I named them 'baby hugs' cause in comparison they were just babies.lol
Even my GP couldn't explain it, but did say that because we have little muscles between each of our ribs, then its possible for them to spasm like any other muscle can, though why it had happened was still a mystery. So i still do not know if what i experience are the MS Hug because i still dont have a dx of MS, but its another little piece in the overall big picture.
Oh i've just remembered something else, a few weeks after delivering my youngest (late 97), just below/around the centre line of my rib cage, did something weird. Again it was spasmic pain, they couldn't find any reason for that one either, though they sumised it could of been my internal organs realining or bowel being twisted up after the birth, sort of made sense to me then, though i was convinced at the time it was my ribs doing it. It was like being punched in the centre of my chest, it brought me to my knees, very similar feeling with the 08 spasms but only in the centre and not my left sides.
Since 08, I get periods when it feels like i'm being stood on, on and off pressure on my ribs, why it starts and why it then stops i really dont know. I breath alright but if i stretch my rib cage when i stretch/yourn, the centre line of my rib cage gives out a loud crack, and sometimes my ribs really hurt. I've not had anything like you describe, i have read others say their Hug is in the area above the belly button and below the ribs, maybe someone will tell you their story.
Cheers.........JJ
