What are you gobbling up this week?

For those of us in the US it is Thanksgiving week - a time to reflect on the founding of our nation and a chance to indulge in food glutony of the most extreme form.

It also means for most of us a couple days of holidays  - Thursday and Friday most offices are closed.  Many schools close on Wednesday to give families the time to travel if home is far away.

So this should be a fun weekly round up- who's doing what for Thanksgiving this year?  We know Canada has its own Thanksgiving and celebrated a while ago.  Does the UK or Australia do anything to mark the harvest season?

This is your invitation to share the coming events of the week-

Lulu

I will be hosting a small intimate celebration with my friends, Malachi, Fluttertbye and Angel.  Our menu will consist of a nice Liver Pate' for the hors d'oeuvre followed by a turine of duck with giblets.  As a side we will have sauted cranberries with carrots and sweet potatos.

After a brief romp in the backyard throwing and fetching balls; dessert of cow hide and peanut butter biscuits will be served.

Then we will lay down in the living room and sleep the rest of the day!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I have thursday and friday off so it's a long weekend, yippie!  I try to make a graditude list every night so will be thankful. another thing for my list is the friend that shared some potatoes and sweet potatoes with me. I plan on zapping them and having as much butter as i want on them.

Hope to empty a box or three. my bedroom is just a storeroom right now. really need to go through mom's things and do something with them. however there seems always something else i rather do then that. so no promises lol.

friday i will be staying home, out of the mad rush roads will be in from shoppers.

Wish all who are celebrating Thanksgiving a fun and safe time.

We host Holidays at our house. That means we will have us 8, my parents, my grandmother & her husband, my younger sister, her husband, & 2 kids. We have the tradition of having the kids decorate gingerbread houses with the leftover Halloween candy. DH & I put the houses together the night before so they are nice and stable, and each kid gets to do 1/2 of a house. Then we play games, my parents stay the night because DH & I usually go out for Black Friday (leaving the house at about 3:30 after usually not getting to bed until close to 1!). I was nervous about if I could do Black Friday this year, but so far it looks like there is not anything that is worth going out that early.

My parents take all their grandkids (12 so far!) to a movie and lunch the day after Thanksgiving (except for the babies) so DH, the Baby, and I will have a nice quiet lunch and probably go to a few stores.

I'm hoping I don't have any doctors appointments, but if my vision gets any worse I might have to.

I hope everyone has a great week!

wow...what stories!

sorry for your family sarah, what a terrible thing to have happen.

and lulu!!!! i can't believe the nerve of whomever proudly stated they don't belong to the bbb!  sounds absolutely bogus and it is very unfair.  i hope you manage alright should they not show after all.

i'm here for the week, but busy getting ready for a trip to kenya with the family on sunday 28th.  lots of packing, organizing and we always bring TONS of gifts for families and children in need...many people donate stuff to us to take, so it will take a bit of organizing to sort and pack it all up.

it's also my birthday on wednesday, but that seems to pale in comparison to all of the other things going on...don't know about anyone else, but the older i get, the less i care about birthdays!

happy thanksgiving everyone!!!

Dennis,
Once again I wish you lived closer to us.  You would be more than welcome to join us - what's one more when I am already expecting about 35 people - everything from 1 week to 89 years old.  Fortunately eveyrone brings part of the food.

Sarah, making a scarecrow sounds like great fun - I love themed events because they give me a starting point.

PD, I wish I had married a handyman, but alas it is up to me or I have to hire someone.  speaking of which .....

I got smart this year and hired a cleaning service to come today and help with the final housework craziness..... only problem is they stood me up.  I called this morning and the owner claimed she had no record of me, anywhere.  I had prepaid.  She said they would still come tonoight by 5 and now it is almost 6 and no word.  I am full of doubts that they are coming at all.

I knew I was in trouble with them this morning when I asked for my $$ back and she told me it was past the 5 day cancellation time (whatever that is) and I said I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, to which she responded - and this is verbatim - "that is why I don't belong to the Better Business Bureau."

I bought this half-price cleaning deal through Living Social back in early October and immediately scheduled this date, it was supposed to be $125  but it cost me $55 for three hours of cleaning, and I figured I could use the help  - I think they are on the web in the UK too. They offer special deals through businesses for goods and services.  Well this one was certainly special!  I have never had a cleaning crew, other than my sisters, do my house so this was a first - I'm sorry it was a bust.

Opie, take it easy and let everyone help with the serving and the dishes.

best to all,
L

Tuesday, I go to the OB.

Thursday....I am hosting Thansgiving dinner for 20!  What was I thinking?!?  Five of that 20 are 8 and under.  My Aunts and sister are bringing the hard to make things and I ordered the turkes smoked form The Shead (as seen on food net work DDD).  We will make it. Rich is not off Wednesday, but he is helping in the evenings to get the house ready.

So, I have MS, and am 34 weeks prego and hosting 20......I guess that makes me crazy too!

Wow, Sarah, we will pray for your brother and SIL.  That's terrible!

We have much for which to give thanks, for certain.

This Wednesday evening, insead of our usual prayer meeting, I am giving the homily at a community-wide Thanksgiving service, organized by and at the invitation of the United Methodist pastor down the street from our church.

Thursday, we expect 2 of Nancy's adult children for Thanksgiving dinner; along with their children & S.O.'s, as well as a family of close friends, that could mean as many as 17 people here.  Got a nice card table & folding chair set last weekend.

Saturday, we will gather with my five siblings, spouses, nieces, nephews, etc. at the home of our youngest brother, near Columbus.  We always have a big Thanksgiving dinner, watch THE GAME, and draw names out of a hat for Christmas gift exchange.  I have to be there; I have the biggest hat.

No medical stuff going on this week, and none wanted, TYVM.

Today, since it's the best predicted weather of the week, my plan is to get the back door replaced.  It's the one at the top of the basement stairs, and only the dogs use it, but the prior owners put an interior door there and slapped one thin coat of paint on it.  Not only does it leak badly around the edges, it's actually deteriorated to the point that light comes through the door.  Our heating bills are high enough already, right?

Well, Menard's had a prehung foam-core fiberglas six-panel exterior door on sale a couple of weeks ago, and I grabbed the last one of the right size and swing.  It actually fit in my little Vibe, though just barely.  Kind of a cramped drive home.

We pray that all of our USA buddies on here have the happiest Thanksgiving ever, and that those up north, across the pond, down under, or wherever you may be have just as many reasons for which to give thanks.  (We also pray that all know Who to thank!)

UK has harvest festival in September which is celebrated in churches according to the church calender. For some people it is not a particularly memorable date. In our village we also have a scarecrow festival which is great fun. Lots of people take part and this year there was a theme of humpty dumpty, three pigs just to mention a few.

Back to this week .....a very quiet one for me so taking the peace and appreciating it. i may even start writing some christmas cards as it is only a month to go.

Feeling very sad today for my poor brother and his wife who were burgled while they slept over the weekend the night before leaving for a 3 month trip with their 3 year old daughter to Australia/NZ. The burglars stole their car, house keys, mobiles and all their holiday money in different currencies for different countries they are visiting. So they are in my prayers today.

Love Sarah xxx
