At a loss

A year ago I had an MRI and a spinal tap done after dealing with some symptoms that seemed MS related, such as some numbness/ tingling in one foot, shooting pains in limbs, and muscle twitches. I also had trouble with bladder control at the time. My mom also has MS, so that factor was an extra concern. The tests came back negative and the the Neurologist said there were no lesions on my brain or spinal cord. I have gone without regular symptoms for a while now, with the exception of one foot having numbness when I first wake up in the morning, and some occasional muscle twitches...oh, and frequent urination and some urge incontinence.  Within the past couple of days, however, I have had a bed wetting accident while sleeping at night and my right eye has been twitching regularly to the point of being annoying. I don't know if all this could just be stress related, but I don't feel like I have an abnormal amount of stress compared to the average person. I have read that bed wetting/ bladder control problems can be related to MS, but am wondering how common that is...? Also, I just really don't know what to do at this point with these weird symptoms, that according to the tests and the "experts" seem to not point to anything. Any advice?? Thanks!

Thank you both for your input! I had thought of a uti as well, but I have gone to the Dr. at least twice in the past thinking I had a uti due to frequent urination and my urinalysis came back clear. Of course, I could have one this time, but I hate to go again only for him to say that's not what I have. I get worried he might think it's all in my head =( I guess the combination of other symptoms as well makes me wonder if it could be neurological.

Most people with MS have Urinary issues because the brain does not control the bladder so you can have problems there. The question would be are your bladder problems Neurological. I just had a Urinary Tract Infection and I wet myself while I had the infection. I even checked my puppy for UTI when I was having trouble with her wetting and she had one.

Bladder problems are very common with MS, though usually not 'early in the game.' Have you been tested for urinary tract infections?

A urologist or urogynecologist can also do urodynamics testing, which tells a lot about how the bladder is performing and whether the right nerve signals are getting through in the right order. Bed-wetting doesn't necessarily follow from this kind of problem, though urgency often does. Eye-twitching isn't likely to be from MS, but never say never.

The fact that your mother has MS increases your own chances, of course, but if you research this you'll find that the percentage is still very small.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.
