skin discolorations

I have been watching this skin discoloration on my arm for a few months.  It is about the size of a dime and is not raised and doesn't feel any different than the rest of my skin.  It was just a few shades darker than the rest of my skin, but after being in the sun for about an hour and a half in direct sunlight on Monday, it now is dark brown or black like a bruise.  What is this and is it MS related or just something else for the doc to look at me weird about.

Hi,

Edges regular or jaggedy, more worrying if it is not a roundish shape.

Brown?  Could be what we call a 'liver spot', just happens to some of us as we get older - not pretty but harmless

Hairless?  Could be an ingroing hair which is trapped under the skin

Or it could just be a new mole.

Always best to get it looked at.  Don't know your natural colouring or age but better to have a doctor or nurse look at you wierdly than miss something serious.  It sounds like a liver spot, but then I can't see it.

Hope it goes away, or is not to bothering

I'd get it looked at.  Several members of my family have suffered different forms of skin cancer, and none of them are good!  Even if it is not raised, why chance it?

I don't have a diagnosis, but I think my situation raised my awareness of my body.  Like one day I looked down and noticed a big lump near my wrist!  It is a harmless cyst, and maybe I just got it recently, but part of me thinks it may have been there awhile.  But before all the testing and appts. and such, I didn't really take much notice.

So that's a silver lining, eh?  Better personal awareness of one's health.  I do hope you get it looked at, and it checks out as nothing to worry about.

I've never read about skin discolorations and MS having a connection, but hopefully others with more expertise can tell you more.

Take care!
