solu-medrol = thrush uugggghhh

Ok so here I go again, I am sure you are tired of hearing from me lol.

Well as you know I was on 5 day solumedrol IV, well my son got sick so I took him to the doctor, he had strep throat. So I call my PCP cause I just knew I would get it too. While at the doctor she told me my strep culture is negative but that I have thrush. She told me it was caused from the steroids.

I have been using Nystatin 4 times a day since the 22nd and it was all gettting betting then I woke up this morning with the dry nasty feeling in my mouth again..ggggrrrrrrr My question to all of you is....is there a home remedy I can use to treat thrush or do I have to go back to the doctor for more medicine? And how long do I have to look forward to the side affects of the solu medrol?

Thanks,
Paula

Meg321,

Thanks for the info. I am guessing that it is getting better. I feel a bit better. My throat is still a bit scratchy but we will see if it goes away if not I will make an appointment with the doctor. My tongue is good now though so that is why I am thinking it is going away but my luck it will come back full force.

Hmmm now that I just said that I think I will make an appointment tomorrow just to be on the safe side lol.

I get thrush from my inhalers, the advaie, even when I gargle and rinse big time and then brush.  I can't get rid of it without the meds...dr doesnt seem to have another answer, any other med comes with its own set of problems.

Not much help but its all I got..

I think it is getting a bit better, I have been brushing my teeth so much that I think they are whiter now than they have ever been lmao. I know that keeping your mouth and teeth cleaned and flossed will help and it will eventually go away on its own. Thrush really stinks though. I thought only babies got it lol.

Well next time, if there is a next time that I do the IV solu medrol then I will be much more educated on the effects. :)

Thanks for the advice,
Paula

Oh, yeah....  you know, I had strep throat one time, and I had penicillin and tea tree lozenges.  The tea tree lozenges were antiseptic and really helped my throat.

I use grape fruit seed extract, (GSE) you can get it at a health food store.  It takes really gross (bitter) just to warn you... lol.  You put about 5 drops in a glass of warm water, then gargle with it. It also works for sore throats.  My friend who had a baby told me about this (she was having thursh problems breast feeding her little one).

I never got thrush from oral steroids, but from antibiotics I do, and some asthma inhalers.

I think you can gargle a mixture of vinegar and warm water... but I would still go to the PCP for more medicine.
