something interesting my primary Dr noticed..

If I can explain this...along with fatigue I can also be very hyper too and it is like the two are pulling me apart and it does wear me out when it gets too bad for too long.

Last time I was at the dr's office he asked me if i was ever diagnosed with ADD/ADHD ?  I told him I had not and he said  that I sure act as if I do.  I am easily distracted, stop in the middle of sentence, interrupt him a lot and skip around from one thing to another, i am just all over the place...dont remember what else.

I realized how much I do this but could it also be the MS or can the MS cause ADHD and can it be treated as such?

hugs, meg

Hi Quix,

I still take nuvigil, started it after taking provigil for a few years actually.

Thats is confusing, let me think about it...so if i already had ADD/ADHD, it could worsen with the Anemia?

thanks, meg

Meg, you doc is right.  Anemia is a potent cause of cognitive dysfunction - of which ADD or ADHD is a part.  Yes, many with MS present with new-onset AD(H)D.  If they already have it it can worsen.

I have found that the Provigil is good for addressing my attention, my generalized and milder vertigo symptoms, and other cog stuff.

Well, i have been hyperactive for a long time..d.idnt think much about it at the time

The Dr. said he is going to work on my anemia before he addresses the ADHD issue.  So we will see..

I did take something like ritalin once..but they took it away when i was in the hospital.

Meg, my question would be  ... were you like this years ago?  If this is a more recent development in your behavior patterns, I would lean toward the MS and theside effects of the disease and the drugs.

If you have been this way for years and years, I think that paints a different picture.

What does your doctor reommend you do about this?

My doc put me on ritalin. I am very sensitive to stuff, so unfortunately for me I took one and can't take anymore. I'm his challenging patient.

Literature says ritalin pretty good for ms fatigue and cognitive dysfunction

I think that the MS could cause ADHD - or at least behavior that is currently diagnosed as such.  I know that other medications have been shown to help with MS, when they were originally designed for something else, like Lyrica, for example.  But I'm not sure what medication you'd need to combat the sort of cognitive dysfunction you're talking about.
