THANK YOU SO MUCH. I will print this out, so I can refer back to it. It's a world of information and I am so grateful for you taking the time to help me better understand.
Big Hugs,
Heather
dear heather found an old leaflet that I was given by my rheumy about methotrexate hope it helps.
quote methotrexate is used to treat several types of rheumatic disease including rheumatoid athritis. It reduces inflammation and also can affect the immune system. one of its actions is to reduce the activity of the immune system,so it is always used with care.It is taken in tablet form once a week or injection.your doctor will advice you what dose you will take starting with a low dose 5mg or 7.5mgs.methotrexate is not a pain killer.methotrexate does not work immediately. It may take 3 to 12 wks before you feel any benefits.possible side affects:in some patients it can cause a feeling of sickness, diarrhorea, mouth ulcers and skin rashes. It can alter the blood count one of the effects is that fewer blood cells are made, and can make you more likely to develop infections. If you develop a sore throat or other infection, or if you have a fever ,if you develop unexplained bruising or bleeding or become breathless,or if you develop any new symptoms after taking it tell your doctor. if you havent had chickenpox but come in contact with someone who has chickenpox or shingles you may need special treatment.if you develop chickenpox or shingles report to your doctor.some doctors prescribe folic acid to patients as this can reduce the likelihood of side effects.because methotrexate can effect the blood count and sometimes cause liver problems, your doctor will arrange for you to have regular bloodchecks while on the drug.your doctor may also request an chest xray before you start methotrexate.some drugs interact with it so you should always let any doctor treatig you that you are taking it.special care is needed with non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.while you may take the antiinflammatory drugs prescribed to you by your doctor, you should not take any other over the counter preparations without dicussing this first with your doctor or pharmasist. you should avoid immunation injections which use live vaccines such as polio or rubella. you not take any achohol with methotrexate, small amounts may sometimes be allowed but you should dicuss this with your doctor.methotrexate can reduce fertility and may harm an unborn baby.so should not be taken during pregnancy.whilst taking methotrexate, and for six months after both men and women must take contraceptive advice.you should not breastfeed while taking it. unquote. I hope this helps heather its from the arthritis and rheumatism council in the uk.I did alright on it until i started having low blood counts but I had been on it for at least 10 years.
lots of hugs back
theresa.
I know you are going through your own problems, but now I have to ask YOU a question. Could you tell me alittle bit more about arthritis and the Methotrexate? I was found to have alot of swelling around the tendons in my hands with little to no spurring that indicated arthritis. I got a shot of cortisone in my hand on Friday and it helped ONE of the nodules but has yet to help the whole hand.
They are talking about a hand surgeon and going on Celebrex, AFTER I see the Rheumy for the first time. So I wanted to know a little more about the Metho.
I hope you can help. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hugs,
Heather
I think my electrolyctes are fine as I had been having fortnightly bloodtests as I had been taking methotrexate for my arthriitis. My rheumy haves stopped it because I had been having some low blood counts then I started tingling and my gp and rheumy had thought it was the methotrexate.I saw my gp a month ago and he has got me an appointment to see a neurologist but not until 19th July.I have had the tingling for at least 2moths now sometimes its so intense it feels like burning even my clothes hurt my skin.Ive been reading alot of the posts lately about cog fog my kids call it thick fits.I also have alot of them Itold my son to put the dishes in the sink to be washed as the water was still wet! I forget Ive put things on the stove and not notice till I smell the burning food,my memory is bad sometimes I thought I was going senile. thanks for your post and hope to hear from you soon

Hey, Girl~
I have been having LOTS of foot spasms lately which have caused my toes do go wonky in a very painful way, too. I was driving late at night in the rain, and had to pull over to get out and stretch out my leg, because it was so painful!
My toes do what my middle son calls the "Mr. Spock greeting." They part right done the center and separate, like a 'V.' I thought it was my toes before, but now I know it's a big spasm in the bottom of my foot, and also the back of my calf sometimes. I spend time to rub it out and it gets better.
When I was in the hospital recently with the severe weakness, I had terrible spasms in my left foot and toes. I was given some ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer. I asked the next day about my electrolytes, which were fine. My electrolytes usually are fine, when taken.
As you know, I have a kind of half-baked diagnosis of complex migraines, which doesn't make sense with some of my signs and symptoms. I'm still hoping some doctor on a white horse will ride along and give me a trip out of LimboLand. Not sure what diagnosis you have besides the Fibro and arthritis, but I agree with Heather that you should keep your doc informed and keep hydrated.
Feel well!

I think you already chose the correct answer yourself. This could be from a combination of things. It was definitely spasms in your feet. Did you get overheated? Where you walking on flat ground when this happened?
I suspect that you may have had spasms because you were possibly overheated. I have had this happen to me frequently doing just about anything. Talk about painful. Expecially when you are wearing a shoe that doesn't really allow the toes to flex like that.
If it keeps occuring, I would call your doctor. Meanwhile, make sure that you are taking in plenty of fluids and getting the proper level of electrolytes. Lack of proper fluid and loss of salt during exercise can and are known to cause spasms.
Please keep us informed. And don't overdo girl. You hear?
Best Wishes,
Heather
