numbness on childs face

hello,

just wondering can anyone help, my goddaughter has been suffering with numbness on one side of her face, it comes on all of a sudden, her cheek jumps as well on the side thats numb, her tongue also jumps, her lip points down and she cant close her mouth,it only last seconds but its very frightening for her as shes only 6yrs, her mam took her to the GP today and she has to wait on an appointment to see nuro doc which is a lengthy waiting list here in Ireland, her own doc does not know what it is, so any help would be great

If i was you id take her to see a neurologist in person. I've had bells palsy 3 times, first time at 14 and I'm only 25, when i first had it i got told it was only common in old people and pregnant women. then a friend who lived in india and helped my face go back to normal said it occured in alot of people over there.
Can never be to careful. There is a chance she could have a pinched nerve in her brain causing these things to happen. Ask her if she has the taste something like metal or foil in her mouth, also if she has a pain in her neck before it happens. if yes i'd take her straight away. each time this bells palsy has affected me has been between 4- 8 months for it to appear gone. having had it so many times the friend who used electric currents to go make the muscles move again can only do so much to help. I'm not saying it is bells palsy but def sounds like it and I'd see a neurologist just to be sure.

hello lulas,

yes it does drop her lip more so, her cheek jumps and it goes numb on one side, she has never been eating during an episode of it so i dont know if it affects her taste, and it doesn't last long, only seconds, its all very visible to see. once its over she is fine again.
