GP useless, should I go private?

Hi all, I would like you opinions on what I should do. I have noticed over the past years a developing headache on the left side of my forehead just above me eye. Then my vision strated to go in my left eye. Last year I had a bout of dizziness that I couldn't walk straight and several episodes of tripping, shakings hands and feeling like someone had connected me to the main electricity supply. In addition, I had numbness which started in my right hand (thumb to fore ginger only) which spread to right arm down to my right leg over a couple of days but lasted around 3 months before it fully subsided. You may be asking why I didn't see the GP or neuro. I did but by the time I had an appointment it had gone. They looked at me like I was mad! What is concerning moreso now is my speech, thinking and comprehension. I'm a teacher and there has been a definate difference! I get confused, find it hard to concentrate, siimple calculations such as adding up marks takes me ages to do. I slur my words moreso when tired. I have brain block where I can't find my words and forget remembering names thats got worse. To be honest its the students and my own kids that I have highlighted to me. I didn't think it was that bad. I thought it was just school but I'm doing it at home and during the holidays moreso that say two years ago.

what should I do next? I can't bear to go back to THAT doctor!

You would be surprised what you can find out just by having an eye examination at your local optometrist.

You need an overall evaluation at a stroke center at a teaching hospital where that are several neurologists and many people available to conduct an evaluation. I am a firm believer in teaching hospitals.

It is clear that one of the possible evaluations is that you have had a stroke, most likely an bleed within the brain. A tumor is another possibility. This is not going to get better.

I am not very happy at the evaluation provided by your current physician.

Your symptoms warranted (warrant) a visit to an emergency room and not an "appointment" with a physician.
