Constant blurred vision in my left eye (ON ruled out)

I have been experiencing constant blurred vision in my left eye for the last 2 months, with frequent episodes of brief, stabbing pain through the center of my eye. The pain goes away, but the blurred vision never does.

My doctors have already ruled out optic neuritis/MS, because I was experiencing shorter episodes of this same issue earlier this year. All of the MRIs/MRA/CT scans/blood tests I had came back normal. The only thing that showed any abnormality was a VEP, which should mild delays behind both eyes. (To date, my right eye remains asymptomatic, with the exception of some mild pain around the edges.)

Glasses do help correct the blurred vision, but no one seems to be able to figure out why it is happening. In the meantime, I am experiencing these pains about once each week.

Does anyone have any insights? They would be much appreciated!

Thank you for your reply. MS has been brought up to me numerous times, but every single test I've had other than the VEP has come back normal. I'm currently having attacks in my left eye about once a week, but none of my doctors seem to be able to figure out what's wrong.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there. VEP or visual evoked potentials measure the time taken for a visual stimulus to travel from the eye to the occipital cortex. It gives a clue whether the nerve pathways are abnormal like in multiple sclerosis, the myelin sheath is affected and so it takes longer for electrical signals to be conducted to the eyes, resulting in an abnormal VEP.
So, multiple sclerosis needs to be reconsidered. Also migraines need to be ruled out for you. Consult your neurologist for a review of your symptoms. Take care.
