Hand IV damage (nerve?)

So 5 weeks ago I go in for day surgery.  IV is put in (the damn thing was huge) and I tell him that hurts alot I have had IVs in my hand before and this hurts.  He brushes it off and says it's fine its in your hand it will hurt.  Now I also am hyperflexable in my hands keep that in mind.  So I wake up and tell the first nurse it hurts can it come out, "no it's in your hand they do hurt sorry".  then the second nurse again a few hours later can this come out please it really hurts followed with "I am sorry no not until you are released they do hurt in your hand".  I finally get annoyed and say I have had them in my hands before and his is a huge needle (i could have fit my earring in the tube!) and it was hard and it hurts please take it out.  still nothing.  So finally about 7hrs later it comes out and instantly I have a sore spot and pain with cold.  Also a dark brown line exactly where the needle was.  Fast forward 2 weeks later at post op apt, i mention it hurts alot and is cold, still tingling (almost like pins and needles) and the line my doc says see your primary this isn't suppose to look like this.  I call my primary they say ok watch is for another week then call us.  so i wait 2 weeks and it still hurts (not to much to the touch but a dull chronic ache) and I now am losing flexibility I can not hold a pencil or grip my steering wheel.  I can no longer make a fist, my knuckles are swollen, my hand is cold and achey (very badly) I can't type because it stretches and feels like I am going to pull soemthing and split it open under my skin.  The pain is from the tips of my fingers to 3inches past my wrist and the brown line is still very visible.  I am currently awaiting my ortho apt but any thoughts.  This is really impacting me as it is my dominant hand so now having to do things with just my left is not fun.  My jobs consists of computer work and I also do photography which isn't fun trying to hold a camera when you have no strength and stretch in your hand, my camera isn't very small.  Any thoughts on if someone thinks this will go away because it is getting worse by the day and plain old Advil isn't touching it.
