How do I find out why two of my senses are gone?

I lost my sense of smell and taste over seven months ago. I am awaitng my doctor's report of my MRI and EEG. I already know there are no tumor's. I have had bloody sores in my nose for six and a half month's, for now they have subsided. Foods that I do smell have distorted odors. The smell of frying onions, coffee, popcorn smell awful nothing like they used to smell and they make me sick to my stomach. I don't smoke and have always hate when smoker's are near it was tolerable now, it is totally disgusting!

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Your symptoms are very suggestive of sinusitis, and nasal polyps. These conditions are very common cause of loss of taste and smell sensation. Please get yourself evaluated by an ENT specialist. Take care!

Sure, Linda, that's okay.  Unrelated to your sense problems, I use a plain saline spray from the store, with nothing else in it, and it helps my nose.  Mine gets clogged up in the winter when the furnace is on, I have to use a humidifier.  Also, I use Aloe Kleenex to blow it, or it gets raw.  I want to add that it sounds like you've had a lot of infections, so perhaps your immune system is low or something, hope they've run some blood tests.  Well, that's all, and hope you find out what's going on. GG

I posted on my friend nannyrenee's board  instead of registering first, the problem I addressed was the trouble with my two senses;smell and taste.

The MRI showed my sinuses are clear and, yet  I get a stuffy nose especially at night. I am sleeping with three pillows. I had some prescribed nasal spray that helped get rid of the bloody sores. The spray cost sixty seven bucks and my lousy medicaid stopped paying for it. I can not afford that expensive spray. I have had pneumonia, the flu, and colds and I still had my sense of smell and taste. Oh yes I nearly forgot my MRI showed my olfactory organ was not blocked. Thanks ggreg for trying to help. I will just have to wait and see if my neurologist has any answers.

Well, this is just a layman's opinion, but if you had bleeding sores in your nose, then probably you have a sinus infection of some kind perhaps, and if it gets clogged up in there, your sense of smell is going to be affected.  An ear nose throat doc or ENT can look up in there and see what's going on and treat you.  The MRI should also show if your sinuses are goofed up.
