Thanks for the help. I had the MRI & everything looked normal even though I am still having headaches & weakness/exhaustion. Pain killers(perkacet/lortab) do not seem to help that much. Neurontin, ultram & motrin seem to be helping the pain but I am extremely tired. It has been over a month(april 22) since I was in the hospital.I went to a "natural" health specialist & they said I still have swelling, a fungal infection in my sinuses & my adrenal glads are spent. They put me on several "natural" herbs ect. to help. I am desperate to get back to work as I have a business to run. I did make an appt with a neurologist which I might cancel if I feel better b4 the appt. next week. Any advice is helpful since the Dr's here do not know why I am still having these headaches.
Hi, I am sorry to hear that you had bacterial meningitis; I had this when I was 2 weeks old and as a result complications of this have arisen. The headaches could just be an after effect of the illness that may go away within weeks however, they may be something more than just after effects with the possible complication of excess fluid on the brain because of the antibodies and things; which is what I had. In all honesty I would advise that you see the neurologist even if you are feeling better as he can rule out any possible adverse effects. Tiredness is a common after effect of the illness itself. Don't try to rush yourself back into work; take your time, or ask your neurologist what time it would be benefitial to start work again. Usually 3 months after the initial illness itself.
Thank you for your post. I am still struggling through this. I still have someI am trying to act like things are ok because my 70 year old mother is worried sick. I am just taking more meds and feel like a druggy but I can function a little better with all of the meds. I see the dr thurs. so we will see what he says.
Secondly, give your body as much time as it needs. You are getting over a VERY serious infection. I would definitely give it 6-8 weeks to be feeling back to 100%
Thirdly, it is possible to get a sinus infection after the IV ATB. The ATB probably is specific to the bacterium/bacteria causing the Meningitis, so if the same bacterium/
bacteria is not causing the sinus infection too then the ATB would not be effective for the sinus infection. The other case may be that sometimes the ATB can cause a secondary infection somewhere else, i.e. sinuses.
