Husbands Pain

My husband is 26. He has had 2 hernia surguries and now we think that his hernia is back. Two surgeons have told us that his pain is caused from a nerve being stuck in the scar tissue. They want him to have a shot that will deaden the nerves in that area. Is it even safe to do that???? It is an inguinial hernia. We are afraid it will cause him to go numb in places he dont want to be. Is there any other way to deal with this pain????

Ok, that is not possible he can see the original surgeon.  I too believe the hernia has reoccured; not uncommon.  I am not too sure about the "shot to deaden the nerves."  I have never heard of that; not that it doesn't exist.  Are the surgeons specialized in abdominal surgery?  What is he taking for the pain at this point?  Any images of his abdomen obtained?  I would be cautious about this shot they are recommending for your husband.  I believe you should go for a third opinion; a surgeon specialized in GI/ abdominal surgery.

I would reconsult with the surgeon who did the surgery originally; he/she will be familiar with the situation(his/her work).  Is that possible?
