I have MS, what is the likihood that I have a tumor?

My fiance has MS and we just recently went to the doctor to find out the results of his latest MRI
and the DR told us that it looks like he may have a begnin tumor? first of all, dont you need to do a
biopsy first to figure that out. Secondly he told us that the possibility of a tumor should be the least of
our worries right now. This is very scary news for us as it would be for anyone, We are still so very
young.  He is only 24, he was diagnosed at 19. I am 26.  I am just so scared for him and I am trying all I can do
to be strong and not let him know how scared I am. I told him that I think that maybe its just one big lesion
or a cluster of lesions making it appear like a tumor. Do you think this is possible? He does have alot of lesions
already and just found out that he has alot more then the last time, so we know that he is slipping into the progressive
stage as per the DR. What advice can you give?

Tesa,
My sister has a miningioma and the never did a biopsy to find out that it was malignant.
From what I understand, the way that the tumor looks on the MRI is usually enough to determine this if it is  a meningioma. My sister has doen very well and did not have symptoms. Actually hers was found by accident as she was having a MRI for uncontrolled BP. Eventually she had it removed because it was causing pressure but she has no problems and the surgery was not as bad as she thought. She was in the hospital 2 days and was back to her old self about 3 weeks after surgery. Try not to worry( easier said than done) because sometimes these tumors cause no problems. Your fiances doctor will probly just keep an eye on it to make sure it is not growing. I hoped this helped some. I am not a doctor but I know what my sister went through and how scared she was when the doctor said' Brain tumor".
I hope everything turns out for the best.

Hi,

How are you?
Benign brain tumors arise from brain or brain associated tissue. The most common benign brain tumor is a meningioma. Others include an acoustic neuroma, pituitary adenoma and hemangioblastoma.
Benign tumors usually do not grow and do not cause symptoms. However sometimes due to compression of brain tissue they can cause symptoms.
CT scan or MRI scans can pick up brain tumors. A biopsy can help in differentiating a benign from a malignant one.
Since I do not have access to the MRI report, it is very difficult to give an alternate diagnosis.
Please remember that benign brain tumors seldom create any problems. Chemotherapy is not required for treatment. If they are creating pressure symptoms surgical removal or radiotherapy is done.
Take care!
