Infarction

I had a CT scan of my brain on 09th July 2013. The report states the sighting of a small lacunar infarction in right posterior limb of internal capsule measuring 7mm. Right now I am taking the following medication: Nifedipine CD 30mg 1OD, Metoprolol 50mg 1OD and a combination capsule of Atorvastatin 10mg + Clopidogrel 75mg + Aspirin 75mg 1OD. My latest Blood Pressure readings as on 1st August 2013 were 140/100. Kindly advise. I am feeling no difficulties or any other symptoms of difficulty at present. I have considerably reduced my intake of salt. We are using Sunflower oil for our cooking.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your advice. Since the infarct as you say is a permanent damage, how serious would it be in the future. Also the symptoms that came up inducing me to take treatment like depleted motor skills, moderate slurring and sudden brain blanks, have all subsided. My blood pressure at that point of time was 176/124. I have been advised a follow-up scan and a repeat Lipid Profile after 10days. On this basis can my condition be controlled and bettered by caution and medication or does it warrant Code Red?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Regards

Amit

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
Well, an infarct is a permanent brain damage caused by poor oxygen or blood supply. This can cause symptoms or it may be a silent lacunar infarct. Your medications appear to be good but you need better blood pressure control. A slight change in medication doses may help. Please ask your doctor about it. Along with this you need to cut down on fried food, high calories, alcohol and give up smoking if you smoke. Also, oil you need to change every month-between 2-3 of the following options-sunflower/saff-flower/groundnut/rice bran/olive. You also need to walk for 30-40 minutes everyday. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
