Intracranial Hypertension

I have the following symptons: extremely painful headaches, lower backaches, stiff neck, nausea, extreme fatigue, blurred vision and pain behind the eyes. I have been diagnosed as intracranial hypertension. I am not sure if this is the correct diagnose. I can go for months without any problems. Under extreme stress the onset of symptons start. I have taken topomax, diamox, depakote and lacix for my symptons but they do not seem to help and often make me feel worst. I live in Vicksburg Mississippi and have had trouble finding a neurologist that will actually listen to me. My doctor simply wants to write a prescription and send me on my way. I am very frustrated and I need some release from this constant headache. Do you have any suggestions?

I have neck pain, too, and am taking a muscle relaxer 3xday and it helps. For the ear pain and noise I use neurontin and it took it completely away. Maybe something along that line will be of help to you.

I also have dx of Intracrainal hypertension for 5 years now. My symptoms also come and go. My opening pressure was 27. I have ocassional blurred vision. I see eye Dr. often. Sometimes have nausea especially in AM ( not expecting). Frequent headaches. I have tried Topmax, amitriptalyine. I can't take Diamox due to being allgeric to Sulfa. I take 60 mg of Lasix et 40 MEQ of Potasiium everyday. I also have constant neck pain. It seems that even when my head isn't throbbing my neck and upper back just feels achy. When I lay down at night i hear a whoshing sound or a ringing in my ears. I have to go to Neurologist every 2-6 months depending on how things are going at the time. I was sent to see a Neuro Surgeon and was a waste of time. Medications don't seem to help much either. It makes it hard when you try to live like nothing is wrong. Fatigue is my biggest complaint. I try to exercise but headaches seem to be much worse with exercise. Have gained 20# since dx. Sorry I don't have a better answer just thought it might help to know UR not alone in this.

Hi,

How are you?
There are other possibilities also in your case like sinusitis, migraine, and cervical problems like disc herniation or prolapse.
Cerebral infections like meningitis and encephalitis also need to be ruled out. This requires further evaluation. Please seek a second opinion.

Have you had a spinal tap done? That checks your csf level and helps in the determination of ih. I assume you've had your eyes examined? They should have been due to the pressure.

I know the headaches really stink and I'm sick to death of them myself. Light triggers mine into worse ones so I wear sunglasses a lot. I'm on amuscle relaxer for nek pain and that seems to help a smidge.

I'm all for firing a doctor that won't work for you. If you haven't already gotten someone new I would suggest that you do so s that you can get some actual help. I hope all is well with you.
