Leg edema

My wife is having swelling in her legs since last 6 to 7 years, on and off, only in the feet and ankles, some under eye. Recently tested for multiple factors. As per tests she is low on protein (albumin below lower range), TSH highly elevated (9 and then 5+ on repeat testing). She has been on olanzapine since 7 years for schizophrenia. Now to go on another drug for thyroid which would be lifetime again, makes situation difficult. Please help me.

This edema seems to be pitting type.

Many thanks for your kind response.
TSH on first check was above 10, on recheck was above 5. But she is not having any signs of fatigue, weakness, etc. Is there any reason this test result may be misleading? If yes, after what precautions should it be repeated?
She is averse to start another medication.

Hi,

How are you?
Elevated TSH indicates your wife is suffering from hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can cause edema due to fluid retention. The presence of edema indicates a significant thyroid dysfunction.
Please remember thyroid hormone is important for normal functioning of our body. Since your wife is hypothyroid it very important that she takes supplemental thyroid hormone as early as possible.
Please initiate the treatment as early as possible.
Take care!
