Leg twitching or shaking

I'm 19 almost 20 for the past year(that I've noticed) my left leg mainly in my thigh twiches often times ends up shaking my whole body. It's leaves my thigh in knee sore and in sharp pains making it hard for me to sleep. It seems to happen more when I'm stressed more then normal. It's freaking my boy friend out thinking I'm having a sezure. I'm not really sure if I should be worried about it and I couldn't find much about it. It's been happening while I write this and the sharp pain in my knee is traveling upwards. Please and thank you for the help

I would recommend consulting a Neurologist to sort this out.  This could be a number of things.

Restless leg syndrome comes to mind.
Could also be a pinched nerve stemming from a back problem.
It could also be peripheral nerve damage.
If you have had no serious injuries, I suggest seeing a doctor to rule out things like diabetes, thyroid problems, etc.
