There are several reasons why acupuncture relieves pain. This involves two "rules" concerning the transmission of. Rule one is that the body (mother nature) separates the body into sections. A "danger" is prioritized. Injuries to the head, for example, take priority over injuries to the leg. This is why a tiny needle in the ear lobe can block pain from the lower extremities. The second rule is that only one pain signal may be transmitted. In acupuncture, the trick is to insert the needle in a higher-priority area. These areas genetically vary. That is why acupuncture developed on chinese will not necessarily work on a European. There are different areas for different genetic types and these have not been properly mapped for all genetic patterns. The tiny needle signals potential danger, and if placed in a higher priority position, block the pain from the nerve. A TENS device works in a similar fashion. In coming years acupuncture will become more effective as the knowledge of the proper points of needle insertion for various ethnicities is developed.
Hi!
I am not an expert on this but acupuncture helps relax muscles and improve the circulation in the area thereby causes flushing of the pain modulators. It improves movement and flexibility. Hope this helps. Take care!
