Neurology and med symptoms

Hi, I have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy  (sp?) and told that there was nothing that could be done.  I have had these symptoms for over 20 yrs. but only recently has it been so bad I needed to find out what it was.  The symptoms are in primarily in my feet but are moving up my legs.  I am taking Lyrica at 150 mg 4 times a day to stop the pain, but now I have been loosing allot of hair and have gained 35 lbs., and am experiencing short term memory loss, which is getting worse.

I have tried to reduce the doses but the pain is too unbearable - is this all that I can do?  I really need help.  I have been on these meds for 2 yrs.  Cymbalta was tried but had worse side affects.

Sorry!  I accidentally hit post.  Anyway, thanks for your respone! :-)
I did have the nerve conduction study, and was tested for among other things, diabetes & thyroid imbalance and Lord knows what else.  I have none of the aove.

She basically, told me that because it was undetectable with their tests she was calling it PN which is where they lump anyone who does not have a surgical need.

Please, if there is a treatment or more tests that I can do, please let me know.  I want to find a new Neurologist that will help me and not tell me that I must just live with it.  Because, it is not just me that has to live with it, my family suffer as well.

Thank you again Dr. Deshmukh for your response.

Hello.

Have you done the nerve conduction study? Do you have diabetes? Diabetes is a common cause for neuropathy.

What are the symptoms? There are hardly any causes of neuropathy that can not be treated.

I have the same problem.  My feet is on fire and it goes up to my thighs.  Spasms and unbearable pain.  I have an appointment to see a vascular surgeon and an neurologist next week.  Still, the medication the doctor gave me is not working.  I'm screaming....but I'm alive.  Gotta remain focus.  It could be worse.

Love and ALOHA,
