Neurontin (gabapentin)

I just started Neurontin (gabapentin). I'm on 100mg this week and next week I go up to 300mg. The 100mg is making me SOOOO dopy. Is this normal? What are other side effects? How bout the liver and kidneys?

Yes, the neurontin will have the effect of making one feel kind of dizzy and/or light-headed/bodied AT FIRST.  I notice the effect when ever I start the neurontin again (I take as needed for headaches mostly) or increase a dose, BUT the effect wears off as you keep on it--in like 5 days to maybe two weeks (lessing in effect over that time as the new dosage keeps being used).  I find it actually energizes me now IF I have gotten plenty of sleep or am at least not feeling sleep deprived when starting it or increasing.  Don't give up too soon.

I took gabapentin 3 X day for 7 weeks to prepare me for brain surgery (4.6 cm meningioma--all ok)  It made me EXTREMELY physically unstable.  I had to have help walking and could not drive.  That was 11 months ago.  I still need help if standing to long or if I am in a room with a lot of people.  Way wobbly.  Dr said maybe a year and l'll be ok.  I don;t think it is from the surgery, I think it is Gabapentin related.  That's how it feels.  Anybody else?????

my neuro stated me on this, and every time i stop taking it due to the "dopy" feeling.

so now, i'm trying it again, 100-300mg at night, to see if it helps with pain. i think it is helping my sleep a little deeper, though not longer.

however, here i sit, feeling so "out of it", that i really don't feel like doing anything, although i want to go do something because it is such a lovely day out. i'll probably stop this med AGAIN, due to this side effect.
