Seizure/Muscle Spasms

My husband is 30 and yesterday had a severe seizure. His body tensed up, and his eyes rolled in the back of his head and then he started compulsiving and spitting up. I believe this was a seizure. After wards he became very combative and was very confused. He doesn't remember the seizuee at all. The doctor said that it was due to substances abuse. (Alcohol and marijuana)

Then today he began to have excessive spit  and his jaw tensed up, as long with his left leg they said this was muscle spasms. They didn't give a cause but gave us meds to give him. He has had a car scan and bloodwork done.

My husband did binge drink over the weekend and he was smoking marijuana all week. But could this really be the cause of his seizure and muscle spasms? Also, is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening again?

Your husband just absolutely positively never touch alcohol again. In the United States most practicioners don't provide anti-seizure medications until the third seizure. You have a life-threatening situation. These episodes mandate revocation of a drivers license is every state in the U.S. until at least a year has gone by without seizures. An accident with a car and a history of seizures is a felony, notwithstanding the danger to others. In addition there is the danger in operating machinery or standing too close to the edge on a train platform. Alcohol is definitely linked to seizures. Marijuana is another issue. Most marijuana in the U.S. is tainted by pesticides. With every seizure there is some brain damage. Not much, but it is cumulative. Death can take place from vomitus blocking the airway. Talk with your doctor about exactly what to do if he has another seizure. How to clear the airway, for example. The provisional diagnosis is "rule out epilepsy". Provided the patient abstains from drinking and takes the medications as prescribed most epileptics can live fairly normal lives.

Well, yes, alcohol and marijuana withdrawal can cause seizures and muscle spasms. Both can affect liver and kidney function, which in turn can affect muscles and cause seizure like activity. Electrolyte and sugar levels should be checked in blood.
Apart from treatment of withdrawal symptoms, your husband should drink water, eat healthy and take multivitamin. If the symptoms still persist then he may need CT scan or MRI and EEG. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
