Seeing Double, but only in certain occasions. Dangerous?

Just today at church, for the 1st time I noticed something strange.  As I was looking at the pastor, about 60-70 feet away, I saw double (2 images of his face) throughout the entire service.  His 2nd image was to the left and it was slightly lower and it wasn't solid...more like a hologram.  I wasn't wearing glasses but I am a tad near sighted, and I do see objects in the distance clearer when I were my glasses.  I just rarely wear them.  Don't need 'em to drive.

After church I started looking at all sorts of objects...far ones, near one...everything.  But I never say double.  Only noticed it when looking at my pastor, whom I'm assuming is not two-headed.  Even member of the band on stage at church didn't seem to cause double vision.  The pastor was under the light.  I think that somehow made a difference.

I didn't worry too much til I read online that diplopia can be very serious and may have nothing to do with "poor vision."

What do you make of this?  Should I be concerned??

Most definitely.  And without glasses, if you don't see double, could be it was cloudy last time you were in there, which would tend to make him seem even brighter.  Try getting enough Vitamin A (for the eyes) in the meantime.

I tend to agree w/you Greg.  I have tried to see if anything else gave me double vision since yesterday, and nothing does.  I've looked at things in the light, in the dark, far, close..every combo.  Maybe my pastor is "two faced."  lol

So if next Sunday I still see him (the pastor) in double, and I put my glasses on and then I only see him regularly (no double image), could we conclude that the problem is just ocular not anything more serious, neurologically speaking?

Thanks,
James

Since you are near sighted and did not have your glasses on, and nothing else gave you double vision, I would say chances are it's not the beginning of a neurological eye problem, but rather a function of that strong light on the minister of the church.  But let us say this starts happening more and more, with more and more items being double, under varying light conditions, THEN you should visit your regular eye doc about it, and he can look in there and see if you have any indicators of a larger medical issue.  Bring your glasses next time in church and have another look see, just for the heck of it.
