Staring Spells

I have recurring staring spells but during these I am completely aware of everything but I cant stop staring. It happens somewhat often like sometimes a couple times a day and then it wont happen again for a few days. its weird. I am 26 and it has become more frequent as I get older. When i was 20 I was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, I have since learned the triggers of a seizure and have not had a seizure in close to 8 months.

What you describe are so-called "petit mal" siezures.

The main danger is if you are driving or in a dangerous area. In one case I investigated a young man had a siezure while walking the railroad tracks and was struck and killed.

Sometimes wearing polarized dark glasses will decrease the probability of a siezure. The optic nerve is often the trigger. Try this before medicating.

You might consider consulting with your physician about medication if the glasses don't work.

That may be some form of a minor seizure as well (there are multiple classes of seizures of course) as a person does not have to lose consciousness during a seizures. A person can have different types of seizures, not just the specific ones they were diagnosed with. Best to speak to a neurologist and they could do tests such as EEG's to see what is happening during those staring spells to see if its some form of seizure and then decide from there how to treat it.
